Lamb prices down 20% It's not often you hear about livestock prices in the MSM. Despite what the Green Party and inner city chardonnay drinkers think, our economy is based in the regions and on agriculture. I'm not liking the overall trends here. Dairy down. Sheep and Beef down. Carbon Farming up. SNA's up. Fart taxes up. Ute taxes etc etc. The story notes that finishing farms normally have the option of making silage if the lamb price is low, but that dairy (who buy silage) don't need it and couldn't afford it anyway... With my very limited knowledge of growing sheep, I'm fairly sure this is just the start of the season for sending them to the works, i.e. for the price to be this low already is very bad. Don't you normally fatten them up all spring and send them off mid / late summer? Or I have I completely mixed my seasons up and the ones born this August just been have a year and a few months to go until getting turned into a roast? www.rnz.co.nz/news/country/501824/20-percent-plus-drop-in-lamb-prices-harder-and-faster-than-expected

That is extraordinarily concerning. My understanding is that Nicola Willis wants to use the proceeds of the carbon tax (ETS) to fund tax cuts. Hence why National support the ETS, it is just a new tax base.

I was going to agree with you but point out all our forests are owned by the Chinese. Then I finished reading your post and see you have already covered that. You know most of our timber that goes to China is used for boxing? As in form work for pouring concrete into. I think it is criminal myself.

more like depopulation but that's largely being felt by the small cities and towns the big cities like tokyo(metro), are pretty stable at 40 million, 8x nz's population no wonder public transport is better

A good read on the Jeannie that is the ETS and our future with it keithwoodford.wordpress.com/2023/12/05/carbon-farming-needs-long-term-rules/ basically the labour govt were going to fiddle the rules a little so they could profit more from the scheme but the new govt put a holt to that. trouble is the consumers will continue to get a rodgering as it stands... big implications whichever way is taken. A thinking person wouldn't of even created the Jeannie in the first place.
