just as 10 years of helen's high tax + anti business labour turned nz into a country that many fled (and it took 9 years of key's business friendly and lower tax regime to rebuild the economy to rewarded success instead of poor decisions, making nz an international attractive place to live again) now 5 years of jacinda's labour's high tax and anti-business policies are triggering the same exodus
no nation ever, has restricted and taxed its way to greatness...Net migration loss of 20,000 could hit economic growth - KiwiBankAs well as potentially slowing economic growth the net loss of workers could exacerbate existing labour shortages which could add to inflation pressure, Kerr said."It is concerning because we're losing people from a tight labour market already, which means this next 12 months is going to be even more awkward," he said."We think it's a big issue."Labour shortages were currently a global phenomenon, which meant there was no shortage of opportunities for skilled workers, Kerr said.www.nzherald.co.nz/business/net-migration-loss-of-20000-could-hit-economic-growth-kiwibank/I2LRQIZSPRZWBGRYN4U22YZZMU/

This is a very interesting story. NZTA have decided to get into importing bitumen directly. Only issue is that doesn't leave a market for the currently National bitumen supplier, Z Energy, so they are pulling out. All as a flow on from Marsden Point shutting down and becoming "Channel Infrastructure". I've seen plenty of ads recently on FB about how anti-competitive practices are illegal, mainly focused on builders and construction firms. So then a Govt Department decides to do the same. But while Z Energy already know this is what NZTA are doing, NZTA wont confirm it? Sneaky? Dodgy? - certainly not, what is that word? - "Transparent"... And then what happens to the supply of bitumen to all the non-NZTA projects? Do we have to buy off the State agency? Isn't state controlled central procurement of key commodities what the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics used to do? Comfort Zone, surely you have some insight into this? www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/464410/nzta-tight-lipped-on-plans-for-importing-bitumen-but-z-energy-confirms-it-will-leave-market

Today we have in excess of 130 Hawkeโs Bay staff. Over this time Higgins has made significant investments in the region with the expansion of our Contracting operation and our bitumen handling facility at the Port of Napier which now distributes bitumen to the Hawkes Bay region and the lower North Island.

Another reason for the high levels of donations given to the parties of the right has been put forward today by National-aligned political commentator David Farrar.
He says that the โmost importantโ factor โis a deep discomfort over the direction of the Ardern Governmentโ felt in the business community.
Farrar argues โthose large donations are coming in, because the donors are extremely worried about what would happen to New Zealand if there is a third term of the current Governmentโ.

pays to be a Broken arse loser these days. If you aren't one yet there is a Government Department somewhere doing its best to make you one.

Anyone know where I can learn te Reo? I'm keen to learn a few phrases, do some scribbling on my face, and have a crack at one of these $400k jobs the Labour govt is handing out. I could also do with some advice on which tribes I should list that I identify with? I live in the Ngati Manahuri Rohe, but I think I need a few others to make me sound more legit. I got stoned once at Uni, so maybe the Children of the Mist? (Tuhoe) If I can't get one of those $400k jobs, how do I go about getting this $200k house deposit?
PS, I'm being serious. You all know I'm wanting to get on the Maori electoral role. Do you think there are cultural consultants around I could pay to help me? Anyone got Hone Harawera's number?
All you old white guys can sit around bitching about it. I want to see what I need to do get on this gravy train...
PPS, how hard is it to identify as non-binary? I could just change my pro-nouns, should be fairly straight forward. A little less hassle than starting to wear dresses to work. I find the lipstick smudges too much in my beard ;-)

not liking then trends that are appearing in nz
so have been pondering the best long term option for self and family
at the moment, being not too far from pension age, the best place seems to be nz
but if a future nz gov said i wouldn't get a pension, because other people needed the money more
and if i became a 2nd class citizen in the country of my birth, because my forebears weren't maori
then reactivating my oz citizenship would probably be the best bet
think globally
act locally

Aussie is the place..
Fruit & veg up 18% in March. Food 7%
0.5% BP rise for cash today.
Petrol up
Everything up
Debt huge...
NZ is fucked. Ardern and Robertson have wasted billions on poor decisions, wrongly following the UNs policies ( for Arderns world profile ego), and increasing energy costs for 0.2% emmisions savings... Which they won't achieve.

act locallyI have Australian permanent residency (pre 2000) so also thinking a move back there as a last resort. But then, if in spite of all Albanese's gaffes, Labour manages to win the May election, Australia will be going down much the same plug hole as NZ....
