Not sure where to put this. We will know mid 2025 if the NZ Police will lay criminal charges against Pike River owners,14 yrs on?? Recently watched a video where Porno Jones went on about mining somewhere. He was asked what will happen to the geckos/snails?? You pick them up and move them, now whats the problem again! I was very confused about all of that. I thought after the dodgy judge agreed that the families could have a share of the $6mil in insurance as compensation, that there weren't / couldn't be any criminal charges. Then, 8 years after the fact (2018?) the Police start investigating criminal charges again. 7 years later, they are still investigating criminal charges. Think those involved are long gone. Then, according to Red Radio, the Police has spent $23MILLLION on this since the start. That is a shitload of money, and far exceeds the pittance the families were paid. I think a lot of that money was in making the mine 'safe', and all the exploratory bore holes, and I suspect consultants and various experts to assess risks. It being a crime scene, the Police are responsible for the whole feckin mine. Shame they couldn't get the owners or shareholders to cover those costs. I still struggle with the thought of 29 men dieing in that mine, and how much of a cluster fuck every aspect of it has been. From the mine management and design leading up to the explosion, to the joke of the disaster response and all the twaddlebollocks ever since.

Mining uses less than 0.05% of NZ land area. Approximately 33% of Nz land area is conservation land.

Could someone please explain to me how Margi Apa is worth paying $17,211 a week to? - $895,000 / year. That is $430 / hr salary. Not lawyer charge out rate, but salary. I really struggle with how any single individual can be worth over half a million a year in salary. Most of the govt department heads are on about $670,000 Does money really motivate people that much? I just don't understand how single individuals add that much value. I would have thought the collective of a leadership team add the value, operating as a unit, not single individuals. New Police Commissioner Richard Chambers will be moving into one of the highest-profile public sector roles in the country, with a pay packet that recognises how tough the job is. According to data on the Public Service Commission (PSC) website, Andrew Coster, the man Chambers is replacing, received annual remuneration of $670,000 in each of the past three June years. That’s near, but not right at the top, of the public sector pay scale. Former Chief of the Defence Force Air Marshal Kevin Short was paid the same amount as Coster, as is Controller and Auditor-General John Ryan. Solicitor-General Una Jagose is also shown at the $670,000 a year level. So who gets more? Not many on the PSC list. ACC chief executive Megan Main is shown on $683,000. Former Kāinga Ora chief executive Andrew McKenzie was on $731,000. Health NZ chief executive Fepulea’i Margie Apa was on $895,000, NZ Transport Agency chief executive Nicole Rosie gets $736,000, and University of Auckland Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater is on $766,000. www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/360495402/how-police-commissioners-salary-compares-other-public-and-private-sector-leaders

Some jobs need to be rewarded like a Cop or Nurse, they do have to deal with some horrible shit on our behalf. But the head of ACC or Health NZ have nothing much more scary than yesterdays sausage roll. There is some bullshot that suggests if you pay highly you get smarter more intelligent people who can get shit done. Unfortunately we have a few 100 MP's that prove the complete opposite applies.
If you suss what happens is some muppet manages to suck the right Govt Dept dick and score a flash job. Once on the train they just bounce from top position to top position as they are now part of the clique. Like the boss of MNZ contract is up so they bounce him to being the boss of CAA i.e from one carriage to another on the mighty Gravy Train.

and before he was director of MNZ he was chief exec of the Real Estate Agents Authority, and before that sailed around various govt departments after leaving the police, but brought his police mindset with him, from his Linked In profile
Prior to Civil Aviation and Maritime NZ (below) I was (1977-89) in NZ Police, and have worked at senior levels in the Commerce Commission (competition and fair trading law enforcement), Ministry of Consumer Affairs (consumer policy, information and education; trade measurement; electricity and gas safety), Department of Internal Affairs (gambling, censorship, anti money laundering, anti spam and identity, fire and civil defence policy), Ministry of Social Development (benefit fraud, debt collection and data matching), and the Real Estate Agents Authority (licensing and compliance).
The current director of MNZ, Kirstie Hewlett, is no different, has an LLB and BA and has been around several departments most of her career, once again not an ounce of sea going knowledge, it is all about "being a regulator".

I am looking at some stuff involving Maritime NZ. One little gem that came to light is their staffing level increase, in 12 yrs under the same act, no more IMO obligations & a simpler domestic frame work, staff numbers have increased from 120 to almost 400! Lots of focus on staff increases in Health and Education (for worse outcomes), but I suggest this just highlights the creep in every department.

It’s good to see some development and investment in our home town regardless of the crap state of our road surfaces up here . www.nzx.com/announcements/442489Question for Comfortzone……Why has Fulton Hogan switched to surfacing roads with 15-20mm chip or stones when it used to be more like a 10mm grade ? The chunky stuff just tears right back up within a week or two .

As you can see absolute max 13.5mm Gr 5, and >95% under 9.5mm, Gr 2 ALD (Average Least Dimension) 9.5 - 12.0, AGD is Average Greatest dimension. Interpretation of this is a bit outside my expertise.
For bench marking AT specifies Grade 4 chip.
I suggest you query NRC or NZTA, whoever's jurisdiction the road falls under.

Cheers thanks for that . I will grab some off the road tomorrow and run the ruler over it . It just seems that it’s a much coarser grade than in the past , or they put much less tar down .
