We are in Otaio Bay, Urupukapuka, with drizzly weather. Can still see Artefact anchored astern of us. Alongside us is "Andiamo, an interesting Chris White "Mast Foil" version of his Atlantic 47 catamaran Philosophy was to eliminate the large main cats normally have, explained in detail here www.chriswhitedesigns.com/a47-mastfoilwww.chriswhitedesigns.com/mastfoil-discussionEdit - The mast sections are fixed whilst the foils are rotating. Edit edit - not sure where this particular yacht was built but many Chris White designs have been built in Southern Chile at the Alwoplast yard in Southern Chile (closed in 2019) alwoplast.cl/

Caballero is a lovely yacht but I am not a fan of the in line galley layout she has. Former owner and his wife now have a very nice 12m power catamaran - 2 x 200 Yammies, also designed by Roger Hill

Umppffff Wow, that ticks every box I have for a boat. Absolutely mint, and surprisingly low asking price. Would fit on my current mooring too... That boat has me seriously distracted. Wonder how long it will stay on the market?

I'm with you CZ. Not a fan of in line gallies but a Beautifull boat all the same. There is a real honey of a Davidson just come on the market. 11m or 12m, really spins my wheels, but them I'm biased towards Davidson boats having owned one in the past.

It's a Davo 11.5m, True Colours. Like a stretched and modernized D35.

Caballero is a lovely yacht but I am not a fan of the in line galley layout she has. My house has an inline galley. Works well. House doesn't heel much though. Is you dislike due to the use-ability while at sea? The little U galley you can wedge yourself into, or put a strap in to lean on or sit on. I guess that isn't practical with an inline galley

Cabs was purpose designed as the perfect Gulf cruiser for 1-2 handed sailing. Not as an offshore boat. Having said that she’s sailed non stop from Auck to Wgtn the long way (anticlockwise) so can capably tackle tougher trips.
I’m also not a fan of inline - just got used to L-shaped - but it has worked very well on the many occasions I’ve spent wining & dining aboard Cabs. Something that you don’t see from the pics is the storage space - the kitchen drawers are on high quality runners and hugely deep - they glide in/out a long way and store a huge amount. It’s a chef’s dream.

Caballero is a lovely yacht but I am not a fan of the in line galley layout she has. My house has an inline galley. Works well. House doesn't heel much though. My home has one of those "galley" style kitchens too, do alot of walking . Previous home in Perth had a "G" shaped kitchen, much better from an ergonomic work triangle perspective yes, and also a minor point that the galley is often a passageway to the forard cabin. I crewed on a Jeanneau 51 back from Fiji a few years ago which effectively has an in line galley with a bit of an extension into the cabin for the sink, it was terrible to work in on starboard tack, hanging on for dear life. CZ has a forward facing galley, with a return on the centre line so you can wedge yourself in on either tack and everything you need is within an arms length reach - incredibly functional. Added to that the locker beside the companionway provides a further bracing point when cooking (old photo, bit messy right now to take a better picture)

Like I said, Caballero was designed & built by a very rich retired engineer and lifelong sailor who could custom-build his dream boat. He looked at every option under the sun including all the latest production boat designs of that era for inspiration - but ultimately he landed on this design for the purpose of Gulf cruising - not sailing to Fiji. That’s an entirely different use case. In his own words, sailing offshore is either spending long periods of time bored shitless or scared shitless and so that was never in his plan. Hence Caballero was born as you see it.
