at the other end of the scale, anyone had a go on one of these and are they hard to master?

Interestingly I looked into this last year. The guy told me if you already understand sailing then itโs a big head start. He suggested in that case itโs all about learning to balance the foiling board so ideal practise would be to get towed behind a boat / dinghy at 12-15kts. Then once confident with that up transition to the wing itself.
I plan to give it a try. I have a 15hp Yammy which I could use to tow me for practise (just need a trusted driver) ๐
Cost of new setup is about $6-7k so itโs not yet got to top of the list of โboat jobsโ!

I was reading about the Rapido tri's and thought if you wanted something to blast around the NZ coast and maybe a quick trip to the islands, and did not need too many cabins, then one of these would be worth looking at. Will just squeeze in a wider standard 16m berth. A lotto win might help on the financial side Only downside is the wheel looks rather exposed rapidotrimarans.com/rapido-50

Romanza is in the multihull division and with the breeze forecast to hit 45 knots at colville they should be hauling .

Haystack, Browns Is and Rangi Light are all in he 30's gusting 40's at the moment, with Tiri gusting 50's. It is a particularly punchy feeling wind. What time is the A-T start? I don't know much about 60 ft tri's, but being on one in this wind would make me a bit nervous I think... Do they handstand as easily as cat's?

We were going to enter but didnโt get ass into gear with Cat3 and liferaft . Quite glad too , flying downhill at colville in the dark in a 26ftr is asking for trouble . The Lee of Moehau would be bloody nasty too not being able to see the bullets and downdrafts coming at you

More forgiving than a cat, but yes, they can be tipped over. Just need to keep well reefed Remember the current single handed round the world record on a 100' tri www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/12/18/571590996/around-the-world-in-42-days-frenchman-sets-new-sailing-record#:~:text=There%20is%20a%20new%20worldOnly 2 days less than the fully crewed record. Impressive!

There is an arguement that autopilots and machine learning / tech can drive faster than humans. Certainly the Royal Whatever Cruising Club of Australia got their tits in a tangle about allowing short handed compete for the Tattersal(?) Cup, cause the big boats were worried the autopilots can drive faster, and the two handers could have an unfair advantage. My view of the Vendee sailors and those Ultime tri's etc, the crew aren't sailors, they are maintenance personnel. They are along for the ride, all they have to do is keep all the kit working. Everything else can be programmed and automated. Load cells and windspeed sensors for sail time and reefing, gyro's and accelerometers for sea state analysis, etc etc.

I saw one of these at Kawau over the weekend and then later moored at our marina. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but my initial reaction was "what were they thinking" when this was "designed" (Navetta 58)

a rather big step up from the launch he used to have at Westpark! TV must pay well in NZ. Coming from Holland I have no doubt she is a very well built vessel, but the styling does not do alot for me. Interesting to note she is registered in the Cook Is. I see currently berthed at Gulf Harbour
