Possibly something to do with the price of marina berths. Although I see it comes with a mooring off Herne Bay. The problem is probably that if you can afford to run a 22m yacht, you'd want something slightly newer and more modern than a 52 yr old model. The cost of doing anything on that would be eye-watering. Just a common or garden variety antifoul would cost more than my current boats annual operating budget. A lot of boat for the money, but it is not new. A few renewals and replacements to keep her seaworthy and you will be talking a lot of money.

Yeah Sealestial is a big old thing. You can see her clearly when you’re crossing the Harbour Bridge as she’s twice the size of anything else on those moorings.
Ocean yachts have great pedigree and were like Oysters in their day.
She has some big old growth on the bottom now. When conditions are good enough I sometimes swim out to her from Herne Bay beach and do a circuit around her. But the big westerlies over the last few weeks have made it too rough to get that far out.

I think Rustler was originally an L Class. Pans out she is in Bayswater Marina and is based on a Mullet but has a keel.
She's quite tidy.

Some go direct to there winches but these days some winches are directional i.e. designed to take load from one direction only. So using a headsail winch, for example, may put you in the shit if it is one designed and fitted only to take loads coming from the bow. Some newer Harkens I believe fit this one way description. That's a trick for young players that seems to be little known. That's interesting re the directional aspect. I have the old Maxwell winches which as you will know can operate in either direction, you just need to flip the little dog clutches inside them. Confuses first time crew who expect all winches to rotate the same direction, but gives a better lead to the winches from the turning blocks Yeah the uni directional winch thing has caught one or 2 out. Just the times we live in that dictate if you can make it uni directional for $1 then why make it multi for $2.
As far as I know most are still fine any direction as long as the mountings are up for it*. Many distance cruisers use their primaries to hang drogues off. A too big a number utter 'good question, i better have a look' when I ask if they are OK to handle loads 180 degrees from what they normally do. It's like the also too big a number who say 'Yes I'd been meaning to fix that for a while' when told we found the chain to anchor connection 1/2 undone
* Last week another 40ft +/- fizz nasty came ashore off it's mooring. Not for the first time the mooring buoy was lifted to find the boats bollard still strongly fixed to around .75 m2 of it's foredeck. I recovered a 50 odd footer from just below 1/2moon Bay some years back. It had about 1.5 m2 of it's foredeck torn out, the bollard was fitted perfectly fine, both were still attached quite fine to the mooring.

As handy as not having to repaint etc your topsides are when you have a raw alloy boat it can make it look a bit messy after a while.
I think we did something for that not long ago, if it wasn't the 1220 with the same name.

View AttachmentView AttachmentNever heard of it but a quick search brings up a shed load of info on past voyages . It’s been around for quite some time , 30 years , not much of that was spent in NZ by the sounds of it .

I think we did something for that not long ago, if it wasn't the 1220 with the same name. you might be thinking of the Farr 44 Blizzard (originally built by Lidgards for Trevor Fell), the then owner sailed her to Barcelona and back for the 2007 AC

this has pulled in at Port Vila. I was talking to the captain and he said it is used for Oceanographic research. If you could own something like this, why bother owning a house. Just have it delivered/sail on it to your preferred destination and when you get tired of the riff-raff move onto somewhere else

We looked at buying one of NZ's old patrol boats but thought the idea of world cruising with a silhouette that looked very military was not the wisest idea.
