That's interesting to see, I know Ted, the original owner/part builder well, Mc Mullens built the aluminium shell and Ted finished her off. There is a bit of a story to her being for sale in NZ last year. Ted sold her to a richard cranium (DH) of an Australian early last year. DH took her over without having any form of handover from Ted inspite of his offer and Capistrano being a complex yacht - I remember seeing him departing Sandspit. Against everyones advice DH decided to to do the delivery to Australia with just his non sailing girl friend as crew. They left Bay of Is on the Thursday in mid May 2023 when quite a few boats left for Fiji and got the shit kicked out of them that night in 45-50kts. Couple of days later I saw her on Marine Traffic off Kawau and called Ted to find out what the story was - turned out they had crash gybed and ripped the self tailer off the mainsheet winch that stormy night then returned to BoI, and I suspect girl friend told DH what he could do with his boat. Anyway Capistrano sat in Auckland on the market over winter 2023 but no takers. Late in the year DH took her off the market and did what he should have done in the first place, got a delivery crew and sailed her to Aus. Obviously he can't keep her, somewhat overpriced in current market. Fantastic boat for serious offshore work, has already circumnavigated.

Mr Boshe (?), Ted, he is a character for sure. He and 3 mates sailed her from NZ to Cape Horn, there abouts. The youngest I think was Ted in his late 70's,it was something crazy like that. One maybe 2 were 80 plus I believe.
When he got back he came and thank me for pestering him and his mates into deploying his chute on a windy day out in the H Gulf so they knew what they were up for should they need it in vengeance. They did and found it so easy to use on the trip to Sth America they deployed it twice and all went downstairs for a good snore off. Not quite why I was pushing them but smart thinking on their behalf to use the knowledge found to keep the team rested.

Interesting boat but the price is ‘optimistic’ to put it politely (3/4 mil for a 25yr old 50 footer ain’t happening anytime soon would be my prediction). He’ll just end up chasing the market down if he ever even sells it!

trouble with that design is they maxed out the accommodation so there is no where to stow all your deck paraphernalia, people finish up with all sorts of deck boxes which is not good offshore. Bloody heavy at 18t, a 3-53 2 stroke Detroit diesel (known as a machine that takes diesel & air and turns it into smoke & noise ) will not be a selling point.

It depends, Capistrano is very much in the "expedition" yacht category and is top end build/ in excellent condition, not some slapped together European production yacht. Not a big market but those who are looking for a yacht like that will pay that sort of money.

There is something so heartbreaking about a deceased estate project. 99% finished but never enjoyed by the person who's dream it was. Looks like a lot of boat for someone with the ability to finish it and move it though.

Having watched Ted build it CZ is on the coin, it is no AWB, far from it.
The effort he put into the detailing only distracts the eye from the detailing he put into the system. I remember the whoha about how long he took to make the corners of the bunks nicely rounded

Damage almost looks prow-shaped, maybe another boat had a go at going over the top of her.
Just nip down to bunnings and fetch some kauri sarking to splice in a patch eh

Vee shaped indentation in the hull looking like the stem of a boat whilst the demolition job on the cabin looks like a bowsprit/anchor hit.

From over there.
Just letting you know Einstein was racing in the opening day race at Bucklands beach last week and was T-boned - the boat has been written off by insurance. Apparently they were on Port, the other boat was on Starboard, the starboard boat bore away to avoid a collision, mean time Einstein tacked onto starboard to avoid a collision, and the original right of way boat plowed into their side taking out the rear window on the starboard side and a large chunk out of the gunwhale.
