Unauthorised use of membership ? Sometimes you have to do that to get your views out. If the case is valid the members will support it. Exactly what's wrong with hearing everone's point of view ? Except unless it comes from the 'podium of truth"

On the clearing of trees and land around the KBC, its not for land development, the RNZYS have a native planting programme going on www.rnzys.org.nz/kawau-project/

The rumour mill is now saying:
1. KBC will close in its current form end of this season 2. Squadron is not renewing lease to existing club / operators 3. Plans for a different “high-end” dining experience instead.
Meanwhile, the staff on the ground say “No-one knows what’s going on.”
Anyone here know the true story?
Whilst the club - including standards of food - have had ups & downs over the years it would be a huge shame in my view to see it disappear. There’s literally nothing else like it in the Guif which is ridiculous given the volume of boaties. Compared to other countries that have enticing watering holes scattered all along their coastlines. Yes they’ve had staffing issues like rest of hospitality in Covid but surely that’s solvable, especially for such a unique place that offers so much more of a life experience for youngsters than just another cafe job in town.

The major problem I have had over the years is not the club itself but anchoring within smelthouse/lidgards bay, dragging unless you are well out. Now if something simular was open in schoolhouse bay that would be more enticing due to being more sheltered. With DOC/Greenies/residents no wonder our gulf is under developed. Even down waiheke.Oh hope your not leaving your dinghy there!.

An otehei bay style establishment would be good but with a slightly more refined menu

I am told the couple currently operating the KBC have not requested a lease renewal, have other interests elsewhere and have been finding running it hard work with lock downs, staffing issues, costs etc. Also told Squadron have plans for the old Lidgard shed. Nothing known about KBC plans

Yes well Dave & Robin have been running it for maybe 8yrs now so I’m not surprised they are ready for a change from island life. But why not just seek a replacement manager / management team as I remember they advertised for about 8-9 yrs ago - which resulted in Dave & Robin joining up?

I would imagine the covid lockdowns and then this seasons not-summer would be killer for a place like that.
I really really enjoy going there. It is my happy place. Kids in the play room. Large supply of ice creams. Catch-ups with mates. The only requests I would make is a steak on the menu, and gluten free beer available (although, very few places do a gluten free beer option).
Harrytom, don't you have a tender? We tender all over Bon Accord, with my trusty 2 hp. We take plenty of old towels if its a bit choppy, and have dry bags for our gear. Just dry your legs down when you get their, and if need be change into a dry pair of shorts. I've actually been sewing some waterproof blankets for the boat, with a nylon 'oxford' waterproof fabric on one side, and fleece on the other. Wear a jacket and wrap the waterproof blankey around your arse. Best of both worlds. My latest trick is to take a HH GPS and mark a waypoint where the mother ship is. Helps get home if we have a bit of a session... I mean if visibility drops while the kids are enjoying their ice creams.

Depends if you are going for a shower or a beer. I've never had a shower there. Normally swimming every day off the boat. Either use sailors soap or rinse off with a bottle of fresh water. Not really seeing the need to shift the entire yacht club cause you haven't worked out how to stay dry in your dinghy after a shower.

Vowed never to return. And havent, stays open or closes doesnt worry me.
