Anyone got experience with dodgy Raymarine networks? See pics attached which show multiple problems: 1. Orientation of boat approx 180’ wrong way to direction of travel. Apparent wind direction similarly wrong. 2. Transmitting 2x AIS IDs (my current/latest one and my previous one) 3. Autopilot not holding course - losing +/- 90’ direction and attempting to recalibrate by swinging electronic compass doesn’t work (after 8x complete circles it still hadn’t re-calibrated so I abandoned manoeuvre). All of this started after a new VHF installation and AIS reset (to program new MMSI ID).

1, Is it set to northern hemisphere? 2, Maybe the old AIS signal is just lonely and looking for a mate. 3, Last time my AP did that it was trying to tell me the engines black box was spitting the dummy. It was enough to throw the AP's compass right off the rails. About now I should probably tell you I have problems just trying to run a EFTPOS machine

voltage issues? My raymarine MFD was playing up as my batteries were stuffed. Can right when I put new ones in. Anything near the autopilot compass?

Voltages are fine (in the 13.5-14.5v range)… but I did just find the autopilot compass in the port aft cabin cupboard and realised that I recently added 2 new mobile booster antennas on the shelf above it (to boost both up & down signals to my WirelessNation modem / wifi router)… I’ve just disconnected them. But do you think those could have been interfering with compass?

Progress of sorts today.
On the upside I managed to recalibrate the autopilot successfully - the problem was clearly caused by my dumb idea of installing mobile booster antennae in close proximity to the e-compass for the A/P.
But the big AIS mystery remains because the Fogg AIS unit has now been removed from the boat (and us transmitting live from land). But my boat is still transmitting an AIS signal under its old ID (Tin Tin)…

Is that suggesting you had 2 AIS on the boat?
The word 'conflict' comes to mind. I put 2 in and when setting them up we found we had to disable one to get reliable output from the other. I have AIS in 'the system' plus a separate stand alone AIS system for when we go into low power mode.
Maybe you're getting a similar thing happening?

Yeah it’s looking like I must indeed have a 2nd AUS unit (possibly lower powered so it was masked by primary unit until that was removed).
Now the search begins - which will be a long process on a big-volume 50ft boat…

Now the search begins - which will be a long process on a big-volume 50ft boat… you might have an AIS "black box" unit somewhere (especially knowing where Fogg came from with AIS being obligatory in that region), follow your VHF aerial coax and have a look in behind your switchboard area.

Thanks. Yeah I’ve located the AIS splitter (remember the main AIS has been removed from the boat) and I unplugged the power from it. So there is no other device connected to my one and only masthead vhf antenna.
Good point about the region being mandatory for AIS…. The boat was delivered new to Thailand but then owner no.2 took it down the Straight to Malaysia and installed AIS for the first time (or so he thought)…
So yeah I must have a hidden box somewhere which we’ll only find by tracing all the possible wire runs from the switch panel… it might have a small internal antenna or a hidden horizontal vhf antenna hidden behind a seat back (so I’ve heard can happen).

So if the "hidden" one is broadcasting can you narrow it down by turning off DC circuits and see when it stops? At least then you could try and trace some wires? I assume the electrician would have done this?

I assume the electrician would have done this? Unfortunately it’s attached the the “Navigation instruments” switch which seems to power about a million devices onboard. The wiring goes from the switch into a loom and then branches all over. Yes he’s tried using a wire detector but still not found after 4hrs searching. I’m going to join him tomorrow for a fresh effort - might pull down some roof linings…
