In Rotorua, there was a "rapidly growing" group of youths in a group that fed into a gang.
Youths as young as 14 would wear gang regalia, deal drugs, assault and commit other crimes, becoming more "brazen" and "cocky", he said.
National Party police spokesman Mark Mitchell said, on the face of it, 103 new police officers were "not enough" especially given the increase in gang membership.
He said the Bay of Plenty had 1468 people on the national gang list in October 2021, almost double the number of police.
"As it stands, gang numbers have increased over four times faster than police numbers."

Labour doesn't have a gang problem.
But NZ has:
1. A gang problem 2. A government problem 3. A voter problem (they elected this crowd)

Just to put it into context , when I was a kid (1970s) nz had a gang problem . Back then if you wanted to own a Harley or a Norton you either had to be a gang member or an Ex special services member and sleep with the bike in your bedroom and be ready to defend your bike with your life . Since then there have been many different govts red and blue . The gangs (red and blue ) have been ever present , living in a town within a region that has a large gang presence I have noticed some changes in the dynamics . There are many very normal looking people who you see with something red or blue on , it can be a family at the supermarket or not very scary looking teenagers , male and female . It’s seems the extreme initiation process may have been dropped if you want to join the periphery and this may explain why there has been massive jump in numbers . There is a new trend around here which has been happening in Auckland for some time now and that is groups of chaps burning around on motor cross bikes . It started in the US with the killer Beez Hispanic gang and that’s the gang that started it in Auckland and it has spread to the red and blues . Having done a bit of enduro in my youth I can see the attraction of having off-road bikes in your arsenal in the city , great for courier runs of contraband as you are virtually unstoppable and the bikes don’t have plates so are untraceable . I don’t think it’s any one persons or govts action that has lead to the growth of gangs , it’s way more complex than that and I wish I could put my finger on it .
The police have every right to be concerned about inciting violence in Wellington at the risk of violence kicking off nationwide , they are vastly outnumbered not just by the gangs but every other faction and mother father itching to have a tilt at the establishment that most fucks them off .
The protest is great and all but not if it gets to a point where there is no control of the bad bastards and they all come out of the wood work at once …the price of marina berths will be the least of your worries

seeing as the victim was critically injured am expecting the gov. and police to spend as much energy and money hunting down these psychos as they spent on the parliamentary protests there needed to be a strong police response to incidents like the one on the Waikato Expressway to make sure those responsible were brought to justice."More than that you should be targeting quite firmly those chapters and groups that are involved to send a pretty clear message that if you're going to behave like that there are going to be consequences."He said this approach would also send a message to other groups.www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/waikato-expressway-gang-attack-witness-they-were-wild-it-was-petrifying/PPN2GR5R4TCIMINJE7DHKD44UM/after-all, after the 2009 gang air port attack in australia they came down VERY heavily on the rising gangs there and it seems to have largely worked www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5411099/Inside-Comanchero-Australias-worst-bikie-gang.htmlThe NSW Police Gang Squad has been more than doubled and the Australian Federal Police have launched a review after a man was bludgeoned to death in front of horrified passengers in a gang attack at Sydney Airport yesterday.
Four men will face court this afternoon charged with affray after the 29-year-old western Sydney man was repeatedly pummelled in the head with a metal pole, used to keep passengers in line during check-in, at the domestic terminal.Bikie-related violence has shocked Australia in recent weeks. It has also prompted governments in New South Wales and Queensland to follow South Australia's lead and move to introduce tough laws curtailing bikies' right to association.www.abc.net.au/news/2009-03-30/timeline-of-bikie-gang-violence/1636456

not going to happen while labour are in power. they want to be kind to people they want to empty the prisons. they want to reduce sentencing. they want to be anti racist which means they will never condemn a serious crime commited by Maori... Unless it's on the grounds of Parliament.

the alleged murder in Rasmussen's home was claimed to have been "very American in style" and "unprecedented in New Zealand" by one criminal barrister.
Three young men, aged 18, 21 and 29, were arrested nearly four months later. A name suppression hearing for the trio was held at the High Court in Auckland yesterday morning.
said the allegation that the shooting of Rasmussen was "a hit gone wrong", and that he had been killed in his own home, would result in greater than usual media coverage.
"Certain homicides haunt the community...and this is one of those."
"The allegations are that this was a gang-ordered hit from within the prison," she said.
Priest said due to increased perception of gang and gun violence, there was expected to be an increased publicity of the upcoming trial.www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/alleged-murder-of-elderly-otahuhu-man-described-as-prison-ordered-hit-gone-wrong/HNM5XCSCAHSZKBNWIIMXGEYSLU/

does labour have a gang problem? Oh hell No argues Poto Williams when asked by the opposition. Oh hell Yes, argues her fellow MP's when asked by anyone. Looks like the 'divide n conquer' program they are running is filtering in to their own party

are you feeling safer after 2 terms of labour? Far North police have swooped on gang members after a spate of violent incidents linked to a feud between the Tribesmen and Killer Beez gangs, including a brutal stomping attack in broad daylight.Detective senior sergeant Mark Dalzell said of four reported incidents in the Kaikohe area since March 13, three involved guns.www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/300542838/northland-gang-war-tribesmen-and-killer-beez-lock-horns-in-kaikohe-one-shotwas on queen st. yesterday when there was a police 'event' seemed they wanted to put some young tough in a car and take him to the station eventually 4 cars turned up and 7? officers seemed to take 20 minutes to convince him to put his hands behind his back and from the positioning of the other police it looked like they were worried about possible attack from bystanders no wonder police response times are blowing out
