I am curious to know how you would you are going to hold bad parents accountable? How would you ensure that all children have a minimum standard of parenting? Mum n Dad working 51/2 day weeks,Black n white tv,no fancy electronics,no internet,no iphone Fish n chips on a friday only and just maybe a can of coke. Mow lawn with a handmower. No overseas travel,holiday was in a tent in a paddock. Lunch jam sandwhiches Shared a room with my sister. Pocket money?? Fuck me ,walked to school because we didnt have a remas tractor. Bugger me my parents were bad. Would I change anything not at all and my children were brught up the same way not just handed to them Shit I am a bad parent then. So you could mow the lawn, you had fish & chips, sometimes you had a can of coke, you went camping with both your parents, and you had jam sandwiches....?? And somehow you think that compares to a child who has never had takeaways, has never been camping, has neither parent in their life at all and goes to school with no lunch? There's kids in New Zealand, that tomorrow, will not even get a Christmas present, they will be lucky to have two meals. Tell me which years of your 5-18yrs you never got a Christmas present? Tell us how you spent your entire school day worrying about all the things kids shouldn't have to even think about. Lets hear how hard done by you were. Are you the unicorn in the group who had an underprivileged childhood that managed to knock off the stigma and mental damage caused to really make something of your self? Underprivileged - (thanks for the previous spelling correction). Compared to my standards and the standards I gave my children for me, my personal view, would be anyone who has MANY of the below: didn't grow up with both there parents in there lives Grew up never knowing one parent because they were alienated and heard nothing but bad stories about them went to school without breakfast because there was none Has to worry if food would be on the table when they got home from school didn't have there own room or space from an adolescent age Has to worry if there parent could pay there prepay phone credit for the month Doesnt have easy and regular access to the Internet Didn't get a phone while all their peers had one because parents couldn't afford it Had zero family inheritance to give their family a boost Parents never owned a house and couldn't afford to rent so lived 5 or 6 to a room or out of a car Suffered physical child abuse from a parent or someone they should trust Suffered sexual child abuse from a parent or someone they should trust Had to walk to school in the rain ALL THE TIME cause a parent was NEVER able to take them Couldn't go to the Dr cause the parents couldn't afford it Was out on the street at midnight cause their parents were still at the pub and didn't know Parrents ended up in prison and they ended up in the system instead of another loving and caring family Couldn't buy extra-curricular books for school or entertainment Never got pocket money for chores Etc Etc Etc Etc Don't get me wrong, there's always going to be some unicorns with many of the above who thrived and did incredibly well for themselves.
