Anyone willing to bet against Ashley turning up as a Labour Party list candidate some time soon?
I think he sees the impending change to a race based health system and thought 'Bugger this shit fight, I'm outta here first'.

Anyone willing to bet against Ashley turning up as a Labour Party list candidate some time soon? I’d be surprised about that. Especially if this lot has left a bitter taste. I think he’s an introvert who is uncomfortable with being in the spotlight hence why seek it out again via a political role? If anything, I think he’ll either pop up as an adviser to a health business somewhere or else surprise everyone and jump sideways into a completely different vocation.

When you preside over a "health" system that promotes, and pays for, the eating of KFC you lose credibility.
When you dismiss proven factors in Covid risk reduction, healthy eating, exercise, vitamin levels and promote dangerous and ineffective vaccines as the "best" way to protect yourself you become unethical.
When you refuse exemptions that even Pfizer recommend you become evil.
When you stop releasing data on the health status of your population you are a politician.

Interesting how in your hierarchy of increasing ‘badness’ you rate politicians above evil!
I do think there is such thing as healthy cynicism. But I think this might be passing that point?
If you’re saying there’s evidence that he knowingly made decisions to harm people in order to put political agendas above individual lives then that’s a big accusation…

It is really interesting to see the different views on Bloomfield. As I said earlier, I don't / didn't agree with many of his decisions, but I still think he did a sound job. My biggest concern was if we had a complete incompetent in that role. Or someone that couldn't perform under pressure. I have seen senior managers / leaders completely melt down when the pressure comes on in natural disasters. You just need to move them out of the way, and make sure they don't stuff up what everyone else is doing. Who is the worst example of a CEO / non politician you can think of? Image if Tony Gibson, ex POAL CEO was in charge, Chris Luxon was recently the CEO of Air NZ. Or how about the head of Maritime NZ, or the head of the CAA. What I am saying is that we could have done far, far worse than Bloomers in that position, at that time. Yes, I strongly disagree with many calls around the vaccine mandates and the like, but we could have done a LOT worse than Bloomers. Shit, we may have had an ethnic minority women with some scribbles on her face, and absolutely no idea about viral mutations, public health and pandemics try to give health advice over the last 2 years. Probably start every press conference with a Wiata and then say that to guide us through the pandemic we all need to study the story of Maui the Fisherman. As for what he achieved, he had is day job of leading one of the biggest govt Ministries in the country, but on top of that, he had to think on his feet, come up with some kind of coherent plan to a 1:100 yr pandemic AND manage his bosses, who are some of the most incompetent, short-sited and immorally driven people you could possibly have to work for, or with. Don't get me wrong, I don't actually want to blow smoke up his arse, but I very much doubt that anyone on this forum could last 5 minutes trying to deal with David Clarke, Chris Hipkins, Andrew Little and Jacinda Ardern without slitting your wrists, stabbing someone or having some sort of nervous breakdown. You would be dealing with some of the most incompetent and self interested people in a highly stressful and volatile environment. I'd go so far as to say Bloomers deserves a Knighthood for lasting as long in the role as he did. Of course, when the truth comes out on the vaccine injuries, we may want to cancel the medal, but credit where credit is due, I can't think of anyone else who could of dealt with those idiots in such a stressful setting, over such a long time.

Why would a person sign up for a bunch of idiots who threw said person under the 9:15 to panmure?... Mind you they ( chippy, Doomfield, Horse, little,... Every labour loser) are all sitting there red faced but patting each other on the back saying " it was tough but we did a great job" ...and all because they will never know what a good job entails.... So insular!

So insular! I'd be very surprised if he did that. He could now command a salary of $400-$500k, be recognised as a leading professional subject matter expert, and work on his own terms, or get mid $100k (plus benefits) and spend his whole time doing BS Select Committee work and dealing with low level lobbyists, oh, and have to work with a complete bunch of fuckwits. I'd most expect him to turn up as a Consultant, hired gun available to many multi-national companies wanting to know how to get a share of the $13billion annual health spend.

Noted, but he still had to navigate the plan through the hopelessly incompetent ministers. And what is that military saying? The first casualty of any contact with the enemy is the plan. Don't get me wrong, I disagree with many things he recommended and implemented. I just think it is worth recognising the level of professionalism underlying it.

No ! I won't have that . These people get very well paid ,nay overpaid in some cases, to do the job and that's their recognition. And when/if they stuff up they don't refund their pay. Lots of people who aren't in the limelight deserve recognition and they don't get highly paid either.I'd rather recognise people on the ground,in this case nurses .

FFS . We pay these guys more for better outcomes.
Have we got better outcomes?... Nope!.
Have we got more costs, prices, and secrecy. Yarp!
Most of them use advisors soooo why not just hire the advisors .
