Looks a bit different on the water with black. Still getting used to it. But at least we’re ready to go (famous last words)…

Looks good. IMO you'll get better service out of black . Changed our boat from white to black and much improvement in time between scrubs. Something to do with light ?

Yes someone else mentioned the lighter colours attract more sea life than darker colours. So even for the same brand / formula, apparently a lighter colour will perform worse. Not just appear worse because it’s easier to see the growth but it actually IS worse.
I didn’t realise that.

Anyone know who is doing antifouling painting services at GH marina?
And equally important any intel on the quality of their work?
I have one quote but it's eye-watering enough to motivate me to get a 2nd option (but it needs to be someone good / referred not a random / unknown).
Ta.

Not much help but I got quoted 1800 for anti paint and topside polish but it’s in Whangarei . Boat is a couple of feet shorter than yours and I would supply paint .

Lot of boats from Auckland and Bay of Islands getting hauled in Whangarei / Marsden, the hardstand costs have gone through the roof and Whangarei has enough competition to keep it under control. If you can manage the logistics might be worth considering?

I have one quote but it's eye-watering enough to motivate me to get a 2nd option (but it needs to be someone good / referred not a random / unknown). Ta. I have no knowledge of current AF pricing, but this issue is a key driver as to why we went with copper coat for a second time. As in the constantly increasing costs of hauling out, increased compliance requirements and the reduced effectiveness of antifouls. Not saying coppercoat is perfect, but works as well as anything and avoids all the ball ache with AF application. What does your boat weigh Fogg? You could haul out at Weiti and save a small fortune on hardstand and hauling costs. You could DIY, or there are no restrictions on getting commercial operators to do maintenance work like that. Applying AF isn't hard, as long as you read the instructions and make sure the weather conditions are appropriate, which is probably the main issue with commercial operators, full order book, hard stand fees accumulating by the minute and not wanting to wait for weather to be appropriate. Weiti current hauling limit is 10t, we are getting a new sub-lift any moment now and that has a higher limit, but I think only 12t, which I suspect the mighty Fogg might be a bit over?

Thanks guys.
Fogg is 15t.
Without wanting to sound a bit cute I’m just not going to ever be a DIY antifouler whilst I’m still working in my current role - time is too tight & precious and I can afford to pay for it.
But I’m just objecting on a matter of principle to paying yet another 20% on top of last years price for the same job. Hence I’ve decided to call bullshit on the first quote and shop around.
Once the price gets over $5k I’m motivated to at least explore other options.
Keep you posted!

That’s a bit of a rip ! Took me 3 days on my own to sand and paint our boat , that includes talking shit with passers-by . Total cost was just under 2K for Lift and return , waterblast , vacuum sander hire , hardstand , paint +consumables and anodes . Paint was $700 for 10 litres , that did two coats with about 1.8 litres left over . That included a couple of extra days on the hardstand removing the “captains head “ from the forward hellhole and glassing over the the thru hull holes .

assume hardstand charges excluded
Sanding 8 mhrs Masking 6 mhrs Spray painting 6 mhrs Misc stuff 4 mhrs 24 mhrs x $100/hr = $2,400 Paint, thinners, materials ~$1,500 Total $3,900 + GST does look a bit exxy. Do outside contractors have to pay a fee to GH?

Full strip back to hull, sand, repair and fill hull imperfections , reapply from epoxy primer to antifoul plus prop speed on two shafts, rudders and trim tabs. Anodes etc cut and polish hull plus lift and return and 30 days on hard stand (had other stuff done, shaft seals, props balanced etc) was 17k (excluding the stuff in brackets above).
Just on a year ago. 3.5k of that was lift and hardstand.
