So if zero cases get us locked down in Northland, how many cases do we need before restrictions ease?
If we get to level 2 on Thursday, will we get locked down for one case again?
Still not really getting any answers that help are we?
Auckland actually has a path out of this, Northland doesn't.
Do I now move to Auckland to get freedom again?

Sitting on our boat in GH marina this morning we saw a cruising family arriving on a decent yacht “Knot Tied Down” and they cheered as they tied up a few berths from us…. “We’ve just arrived back after 6 months in Fiji” they proudly announced.
“Are you sure you made the right decision coming back, do you have any idea what you’ve come back to?!”, I asked them.
Gosh who knows what’s going to happen.
I suspect Northland alert level is a knee-jerk reaction due to unknown community spread, lower vaccination rates and sparser access to health services. If things stabilise next couple of weeks you’ll probably synchronise with Auckland.

There is merit in both good process and good outcomes - but it’s a balance and you need to pursue (and measure against) both those.
After all, good science can frequently result in a failed experiment but you don’t necessarily throw away the whole framework but learn & adapt to hopefully reach your success next time.
Hence both process of decision-making as well as outcome methinks?

I think there is a bit of hedging bets going on, no clear message.
Lots of people still think elimination is the goal, they vote.
Lots of people want to get on with it, they vote too.
Mighty leader trying to make it all sound possible and take credit for any good news, or spin as it may be.
Letting the country get through this at 50 cases a day, 100000 days.
I know we never expected honest from politicians but I can still keep asking.

Is this a form of anti-viral?

Not an anti viral, focus on stopping the cyko storm while not messing with your body like steroids. I don't think it's a coincidence merck has popped up with a new drug, bit like Remdesivar that turned out to be useless but approved on similar data. Funny (not) how msm hasn't mentioned this one.

Every Location of interest since 10 oct bar one have these instructions
"Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms for 14 days after you were exposed at this location of interest. If symptoms develop, get a test and stay at home until you get a negative test result AND until 24 hours after symptoms resolve."
How is that any different from just normal life now?
What's the point of listing it?
Bloomfield said only one transmission had occurred at a location of interest during this entire outbreak, again, why bother?
The role out for the passport app is now "end of November" it was "by November", would make a huge difference to jab numbers but no, lets drag it out a bit longer.

They might as well announce one final new location of interest = New Zealand.
The tracing App seems a disappointment. Right back at the start of this thing the big tech companies huddled (Apple, Google etc) and quickly worked out a 100% watertight App solution which would give all the right functions & alerts and store the sensitive personal location data of users on their own devices and not in the big tech clouds. And they offered it to Govts for free (inc NZ) as their ‘give back’ to the world. But many Govts (inc NZ) said “No thanks we don’t trust you and we can build our own better version anyway”.
The rest is history as they say…

So 71 and counting. Despite the 'sticker shock' of today's figs I reckon we'll soon be looking back to the 'good ole days' of case numbers only in double figures.
Here we go...
The sharp rise seems a certainty (and I think behind the scenes even the political spinners have clocked that). The only uncertainty is how long we 'enjoy' the current restrictions or even face a re-tightening (as hinted in today's 1pm show)? And how quickly we see further easing even as cases increase but vaccinations also increase?

I went to a lab/clinic place yesterday to drop in a test and I was a bit gobsmacked at how shoulder to shoulder the room was, a room chocker with vax info and big posters talking mitigation techniques like distancing. From my understanding of the rules, this hour at least, Tamakis bunch was more observant then the clinic I went into. To much shaming of heavily selected groups only is going on and I see it being very counter productive.
I get tested twice a week as I cross the border. So far big fat 0's which is nice, we'll see how they go after a yacht as 2 of my crew were picnicking with Tamaki.
As for weekly testing. Easy as to sign up but then the niggles started. The FAQ's are good by very limited. Emails never get responded to so it as hit n miss for a while until we managed to get the team connected. But now up and running and it seems pretty damn good. Easy to do which is also good. The one HUGE WTF?? with it is, last weekend we were out of tests so lets go pick up some more, easy as you'd think. On the website and the list of locations for pick ups and drop offs only to find in NZ's biggest most packed metropolis, one experiencing a Delta outbreak, we had to go to the very northern boundary of the City, Te Hana, to pick up more from the 1/2 horse town petrol station, a 240km round trip. The kits just a vile inside a plastic bag and sit on counters like a pen or ashtray, it's not like they need special treatment. Got more yesterday from the room that is likely to be a place of interest in the next few days, oh joy!!, that was only a 70km round trip. Luckily there is a drop off only in Northcote so one saving grace. I just found all that highly bizarre. I was told they are rolling out more places but then we've been told a lot that never seems to happen.
As a FYI - that testing programme is only open to border workers and those who cross it, not the general public or as is noted quite specifically, teachers

Today’s 4pm level announcement seems virtually impossible Auckland is dropping to L2. But does anyone seriously thing the potential return to L4 is a real discussion or just Bloomfield’s scare-tactics?

Quite surprised how many people I know who have not been vaccinated. Some true antivaxers as expected but quite a few just hesitant, worried about side effects and not seeing any urgency or need.
Todays group was a bit different, they hate what this government is up to so much they are refusing just to get at them, quite a large number.
I suspect things will change as mandates grow and less of society remains open to them, the slowness of the covid pass role out and lack of restrictions on un-vaccinated is not helping move this along.
