Santana is a good boat, it's just something I didn't like. I must stress that it was only a personal opinion.

I owned a MK2 for 5 or so years, sold 2.5 years ago. did you ever consider replacing the engine? A 330hp Cummins seems to be a good swap Did talk to Moon about a change, but decided that it would not pay off versus buying something different.
Ours was under-powered, only a 250hp. Some have been modified, keels removed, different rudders etc. They fly with bigger motors, handle better etc.

Yes, my mate removed the keel on his Mk1. Said it made a big difference but sailed around a lot at anchor. He only had the original 210 Cat.

understand, you would not see much change from $100k for a swap, even using a "factory remanufactured" Cummins along with a new gearbox, shaft and prop.

Just got email from Westhaven saying our pole mooring is going from $430/month to $480/month. 2.5 years ago it was $340/month (which I thought was quite reasonable, at the time we were paying $500/month for a fingerless berth, that is now $728/month!)
Seems clear they just want to price everyone out of the poles so they can put in more 18-20m parks.

Agree and the clubs are vomiting members as Westhaven is fast becoming a place only for the 1%ers and their large tupperware imports. Not to mention its also becoming an arse to get in and out of.
The council is broke and as Westhaven is one of the very few things that doesnt cost them and they know the rich white pricks are an easy as target if they play up, they have no problem shafting the average public for more coin. They are pulling a mill a month out of it into the general funds, which they then waste
Once they drive the clubs out they will have their way. That being getting the Chinese to build hi rise apartments for the very rich.

what size pole distance are you on?
There is a 12m berth on the end of W for sale on Trademe for 40k 2029 end date. So you get 6 years at OPEX of ~4k plus CPI avoid $480/month. So probably not a great economic choice but some certainty.
We bought ours on V 5 or so years ago for $50k

Are the clubs kicking up a stink? I actually replied to the email saying I thought that Panuku were a bunch of crooks. Won't make a blind bit of difference but if no one has a bitch and a whinge it won't get any better. Duryfree - I'm only on a 10m berth. Thought about buying a berth but it wasn't really worth it with the poles being realatively cheap. I have been intending to buy a bigger boat but doubt it'll happen now as kids getting into highskool sport and the marina costs are so exhorbitant maybe we'll just keep the 30ft log. Until we get kicked off the poles that is...

Faaaarrrk, maybe I'll stop complaining about my mooring fees. I wont tell you what they are. It will seriously rip your undies. PS, do they send you a tub of vaseline with the invoice? you know, for while they are bending you over?

At Weiti Boating Club boats over 9.4m are $118 per m per year. So a 10 m boat would be $1,180 per year. Annual membership is $300. All on pile moorings. Some moorings are a wee way from the dinghy pontoons though. All dinghy storage is covered and locked sheds, so my budget PVC deflatable lasts well. The temporary mooring owners store their dinghies outside, and the PVC ones don't last very well at all.
Carpark is gravel, but there is no parking restrictions (within reason, there are rules for staying overnight in campervans and stuff). A tidal bar to cross. Drawing 1.8m we can't cross 2 hrs either side of low tide. Reasonable racing including summer week nights and winter weekends. The fleets wont be as big or diverse as Westhaven, but all racing is combined with Gulf Harbour YC, so the fleets are competitive.
The kicker though, obviously there are waiting lists. We have been members and owned the same boat for about 20 years, maybe more now. We had to wait a year or two to get a mooring back in the day. Smaller boats and boats with shallow draft have moorings come available more often than bigger boats and deeper draft. Some of the moorings are very shallow at low tide. Very sheltered from prevailing storms, although the floods did rip out a mooring pile (along with the channel markers at the bar). Clearly boat owners are going to hang onto moorings tighter than a Maori MP to co-governance. But they do become available.

Dinks live in the open but I got given a nice little fibreglass clinker so I don't care about that. I've enquired about going up the Weiti, but for where we live either WH or Bayswater are extremely convenient to get to. I'd have to battle northern m/w traffic to get up to the Weiti and it's not that appealing. I also grew up having to work the tides to get our boat out of a very tidal harbour. I don't mind rowing out to the boat so that side doesn't bother me. I also have zero interest in racing, been there, done that. But the dry fisting we're now getting makes me wonder if I want a boat or a ski holiday in Japan/Canada each year as they'd both end up costing a similar amount at a guess.

A rash of sharply priced raceboats have hit the market in the last couple of weeks and I doubt it’s because the owners are upgrading .

A rash of sharply priced raceboats have hit the market in the last couple of weeks and I doubt it’s because the owners are upgrading . Is it cause they discovered you can have as much or more fun on a wind foiler, you can go out any time you want and don't need to organise a rugby team to come with you? Or do you think owning a raceboat is just too expensive and hard to do now?

Just talking to a mate (a real estate agent on the peninsula) about this sort of stuff. he said he had just off loaded his campervan, mentioned a year ago people were asking off the planet prices for campervans and caravans, now can't move them. Said its much the same in the fizz boat market. There are 2 16m berths for sale at Sandspit, normally these would have been snapped up very quickly but have sat on the market for a couple of months now. I am hearing that many people are going on extensive overseas trips this year, so there is a definite shift in expenditure pattern for those with some money to spare.
