I see Wired is in with Equilibrium not far behind, they have made a real break from the fleet, no one else around cape Egmont yet. Disregard Sweetwaters, she is motoring - I told Steve before he left Mangonui to take plenty of diesel, he is using it now

Yesterday evening Drinks Trolley Racing reported concerns with her rudder. Conditions at the time 25-30 knots southerly and 2m sea state. Kick suspended racing and Brendan and Josh stood off Drinks Trolley while they motored into the top of the Pelorus Sounds and calmer water. Both boats spent the night on a Waikawa Boating Club Mooring and then left early today with Kick towing Drinks Trolley and will shortly round Cape Jackson at slack tide and in daylight and be meet by Oceans Alley a WBC members boat who will likely take over the tow. All is ok on both boats. Massive shout out to Brendan and Josh for the seamanship and mateship they have shown overnight. Fingers crossed Drinks Trolley can get the issue sorted and stay in the race!

The tow has been passed to a larger yacht from Waikawa called Ocean Alley.

Is it just me or did Wired have a blinder on the return ride?
When did L2 start?

Is it just me or did Wired have a blinder on the return ride? When did L2 start? I assume you mean Leg 3, started Tuesday afternoon. Wired was smoking the whole leg, first 24hrs up the West coast she covered 201NM hard on the wind. That canting keel sure gives an edge Only other yacht that could keep close to her was Equilibrium. Whichaway which is no slouch was always a little further behind. Something must have happened to Margaritaville, her course up the coast has been very erratic and she is keeping Sweet Waters company at the back of the fleet.

Opps yes L3.
Oh for a big boat with a canting keel.
Margaritaville has mechanical issues I'm told. CU is on a truck heading home.
Any word on Start Me Up?

Looks like only 50% of the fleet finished (17 / 34). Is that typical for this race?

Tracker shows everyone finished now, including Hans Up doing 18 knots on the Southern Motorway.
I think only 3 boats didn't finish. 2 in the first leg, which is the whole purpose of the short first leg. Vixen with a back injury, The Stewart 34 that starts with P having wrecked its mast in a start prang, and one of the boats with a dodgy engine, Margaritaville?
I think one of the SI boats didn't do leg 3, as they were already home. A fairly low attrition, low drama event this time.
Think they made the right call not going up the east coast. Comments from other boats going that way indicate a very high likelihood of encountering slash, and if racing, esp at night, it would just be Russian Rullet until someone got a puncture and developed a welsh onion.

LOL. "The Stewart 34 that starts with a P." That narrowed it right down - hahaha - def made me laugh ;-)
