Who’s doing what on the water right now?
I did a couple of days trips out of Gulf Harbour over the weekend taking it gently with a young family (+ cat onboard for first time)!
I understand from AIS and others around Mahurangi and Kawau that it was packed over the weekend and no sign of the police enforcing the no overnighting rule.
Wonder if that will continue?

Wondering if I can use the yacht to carry out essential travel?

Me and the wife were planning a trip to Kawau on Thursday but checked with DOC and can’t go ashore so I think we will just meander on down to the bottom end , probly stay in chamberlains bay and head back on Sat before the weather turns again, it’s going to be nice to get away on the water for a change

Good idea.
I’m thinking that visitors going ashore on any inhabited island (like Barrier / Waiheke / Kawau) is either banned or discouraged so best avoided to not draw unnecessary attention to ourselves.
But uninhabited islands maybe OK if socially distanced from anyone else ashore? And going ashore elsewhere in the same region on the mainland probably OK eg Mahurangi beaches?

Waiheke, Barrier not allowed, anywhere else I assume you can land on a beach as per normal and keep 2m away unless in a "picnic bubble"

And it’s looking like quite a pleasant weekend coming up on the Gulf.

Looks like a light & fair weekend is on the cards for the Gulf - what are people planning?
We'll head out but undecided on destination. I still don't have a dinghy so going ashore is academic (and I probably would avoid anyway right now).

Back today from Ponui island, had approx 60 boats in Chamberlins bay last night, couldn’t get over the amount of big launches, 50 to 60 footers like Rivera’s very popular, Motuhie was very busy also and Izzy bay looked pretty full

That’s been a lot of chatter about the Police’s position on overnighting including some bozos on other forums who have been calling the Maritime Police to ask them and are surprised / disappointed to be clearly told “No”.
Well honestly guys, what did you expect? You’re calling them in their office where they are in admin / bureaucrat mode and they don’t know who the hell they are talking to on the phone so of course they’re going to give you the only answer they can!
But catch them out on the water and speak to them calmly face-to-face where they can see what you’re all about - and I bet you’ll get a very different answer.
Furthermore, we’re hearing that the Police don’t have time to chase down the large numbers of boats who seem to be overnighting. This is a massively important win for personal freedoms because it tells us that if enough boaties continue to do this then the silly overnight rule has effectively become unenforceable - which opens the door on our freedoms on the water.
So I suggest that anyone overnighting does it quietly and responsibly, sticks to their bubble and stays onboard rather then venturing ashore. And hopefully this freedom will continue for us to enjoy…

I’m assuming that by Christmas we can at least safely plan for some kind of ‘normal’ summer cruise with overnighting permitted.
But I can easily imagine done kind of restrictions still in place around going ashore at certain remote island communities eg Barrier. Also wondering if those of us in the Gulf would be allowed north to BOI or vice-versa.
What do others think?

I think we will be restricted Northland wont be at 90%, so unless they change the "rules" we will be stuck.
