Not really sure what thread to put this in, it's about Maori Aspirations. Could easily go in several threads running at the moment, but rebuilding NZ, or not, is equally appropriate. High profile Wahine Maori athlete, Portia Woodman-Wickcliffe, on her aspirations on retiring from professional sport: So what was next for her? "Lounging on the couch, eating Maccas and KFC and popping out babies". What a role model. Can't understand why Maori under achieve at everything accept obesity, diabetes and child neglect. And one thing I can never get my head around, Portia is married to Renee, who I assume is female. I think they might be missing a key ingredient for popping out babies? www.rnz.co.nz/news/olympics-2024/523688/olympics-2024-retiring-black-fern-portia-woodman-wickliffe-says-she-saved-her-worst-for-last

I had a mate who died too young when he didn't make it around the corner at the end of Pukekohes main straight. He was on 2 wheels at the time and we reckon close to 200kph, to this day we have no idea what went wrong. His name was Renee. it's about Maori Aspirations. I think part of the big issue we have in NZ around 'Maori' is too many just use the term Maori when in fact it is quite clear it would be far more accurate to use 'some Maori' or even 'a minority of Maori' in most occasions. The more surveys etc that come out the more it shows the majority of Maori are no different than the dude standing either side of them. Don't let a small too bloody vocal shit stirring intentionally minority drag down the entire lot. I do believe by just using the term 'Maori' a lot of people are being tarred with a brush they shouldn't be.
And note I deleted whom I quoted as it's very wide spread not that poster specific.

Rebuild NZ you cant its fucked. Govt annouced a few ago max borrowing for indviduals was to be stet at 6 x income,1st august no loimits,no one van ask what you spend your $on just the ability to repay. Number 1 son applied for a job with a leading NZ company, video interview, then interview in person and got asked which roll he would like,he has a couple of friends who applied and got told same thing,we have plenty of roles going. 2 weeks later he rang and got told the person conducting the hiring is on holiday, then rang today and spoke to her. No we arent hiring that was a exercise to please some manger but we may have roles next yr. Had same deal with Air NZ,hiring but they want internships where you basically dont get paid. So NZ lost as he and his friends are now seriously looking at the mines in Aussie next yr. Starting rate for 6 weeks on 2 weeks off roughly 4k + per week for electrical workers They are more than qualified for roles www.seek.com.au/mining-electrician-jobswww.seek.com.au/electrical-mining-jobs

Her little sister is about to finish uni and is looking to go. I said to her I don't know why any young person would stay here and she should get a years experience here and book a one way ticket.

Subsidized move over and $5k per week Oh to be under 30 again. Even if you stayed 5/10yrs and returned to NZ.As long as you are disciplined with your $$ and didnt live the life of Riley.

Yeah, but you'll have to live in Darwin. Or worse, Alice. There is a reason Aussies don't all move there.

HT, if your son does get work over there make sure he gets some good advice on the tax system and in particular the Super Levy. As you know the latter is a great way for a young guy/girl to stash money away on a tax effective basis, can bank up to $30k/yr only paying 15% tax. Very important to pick the right fund manager, avoid like the plague "Industry Funds" (effectively union money raising ops), bank and insurance company funds, it is all about them not the members

He is now in the process of obtaining a passport and determined to be over in Aus early 2025. He also qualifies to work in the USA as having passed his Masters. He has 2 yrs to decide whether or not for USA as no problem getting a visa. On Friday he contacted AirNZ and asked whats happening about his application and got the response of."We are not currently seeking employees but seeking expression's of interest should the advertised vacancies become a reality in the next 2 to 3 yrs." Exactly same respone from Fisher n Paykel. If big companies think they can string along the techno generation they better think again. His small group of friends who different degrees in engineering are all looking overseas, one is looking at Chinese company producing outboards on behalf of mercury.

I would suggest Australia rather than USA for engineering work, much better pay and much more open thinking/room for growth there, US is so conservative and everyone is compartmentalised, "specialists" in a very narrow field within a given discipline. My 18 years in Australia set me up for life career wise.
Mercury buy all their small outboards from Tohatsu, Japanese built.

Under 40hp mercury are having built in China, mercury were and still maybe rebranding tohatsu small motors. www.marineenginedigest.com/profiles/mercury/mercury-chinese-outboards.htmA phone call to my contact at Mercury headquarters in Wisconsin provided an instant answer. Says, Robin Senger, "These Mercury outboards are built to the same quality standards and utilize the same production methods in China as in Fond Du Lac." Robin's word is good. But due diligence required that I see it to believe it. So I caught a short 14-hour flight over the North pole, down over Siberia and onwards to Shanghai. Once on the ground I traveled overland 110 kilometers West to the Suzhou Industrial Park. For the record, Mercury's Suzhou manufacturing plant was established in December 2003. Production began in March of 2005 and includes sub-assembly of component parts, painting, power head assembly, testing, boxing and shipping. USA There is some special deal for new graduates, if wanting to work there within 2 yrs of graduating, maybe an experience he may never get elsewhere, but Aussie would be my preference too. Big question for me is.How long before the minning industry collapses?China is Aussie biggest consumer but Australia seems to be anti china/asia,happy to trade for now. His small group were told by uni engineering in robotics/programming/mapping etc is the future . Son is that guy who can watch a youtube and change a timing belt/idlers/water pump and sel the car for a profit or diagnose auto electrics, He pulled an old garmin gps hand held of mine apart, wouldnt update due to age,$5 bit and works like new,now gives date/time as before stuck in 2010, 30 minutes and up and running. He has built about 5 gaming computors,parts/labour cost on average $1500 sell for $4500. Constantly buying broken monitors etc and $2 $3 has them fixed. Thats his side hobby repairs, apple etc throw it away dispute warrenty and you buy new .So we have a collection of phones/laptops etc that just need a bit of time spent then on TM and sold,on average he makes $150 per repair, and he has set himself up as self employed while contracted to his former professor who has a side hussle doing waipa council contracts. LTSA have found funding and now going ahead with a project for the waikato express way. They want to know how many cars, cars with trailers, trucks, truck n trailer, semi trailers and motorbikes use a particular part of the express. Want to get away from the 2 rubber hose counters as its purely guess work. (Way above my pay scale.) Theres work here in NZ but limited contracts, may get 3.4 months then nothing for 6 weeks, govt funding being cut then a injection of cash and projects on again. Be many industries here in NZ going through the same process where hopes pinned on govt contracts. The armed forces were looking non military personnel for several contracts but thats canned. So how long can this GOVT keep saying we are going to rebuld nz? cuts here over spend there. Imo the biggest waste is roading, non monitored, spend $$ for what? Breynderwyns close it and do it properly, 10/12yrs and futher 2/3 yrs yet Takanini to Bombay MW extensions. Express way from Taupiri to Horotiu rebuilding as wasnt fit for 110km only 100km, then parts from Hamilton to Cambridge needing major repairs as cracking quite fast now. Thursday night/Friday morning Auckland MW close .Drury to Takanini both directions,so cars/trucks had to use gt South RD. 1.5hrs to go 10 kms takanini to drury why?? because they allowed over size(8m) houses to be moved with closures in place. Those that know GT South rd its not that wide and residential cars park on bypass.I was amazed at how many heavy vehicles are on the rd at that time 1.30am. 5.00am rant over

HT agree with you on the Papakura to Drury motorway update, I can remember there was a sign up say "Completion Date Mid 2023" What f**king joke. I don't know what there are doing with the 3 large rectangular culvert under the road, it looks like a bit of rework is happening now. Plus a couple of weeks ago they where doing rework or completing the concrete centre wall north of the Papakura overbridge and only had 2 lanes open with the on ramp trying to merge into the 2 lanes......."what a cock up" To me me there appears to be lack of planning in trying to get the traffic to flow.

So how long can this GOVT keep saying we are going to rebuld nz? cuts here over spend there. And there in a sentence is exactly the problem. People are not looking at the root cause.
The answer Mr C is - as long as you keep voting the fuckwits in.
The politicians are not the problem, they are like a 2 year old and only doing what you allow them to do. If you give them wiggle room then do not be surprised to find toast in your DVD player.
