Yeah they can bean arse but nail them when the pop up and you'll win eventually, at least for a period of time.
The learning curve is not only good for your boat but it's also good for you head, embrace the learnings grasshopper:)

Finally after much tinkering managed to get the boat wet yesterday.... not ideal conditions for a yacht (no wind) but perfect for a green crew. Dad was steerer and engine, Matt and I were crewing.... it was a sails up, down, up and down day with some coming into the wharf and anchoring for practice.... photos supplied by the family photographer (who was wishing she had bought her telephoto lens for the last pic!)

Wow, that's a hell scenic launching ramp. Also a very tidy looking craft, nice score dude.
In the light weather like that get the weight out of the arse. In the last photo you are big time heavy in the bum, which is fine if just cruzing and slurping a very bevvies but performance wise not good at all. In days like that the foredeck crew get to have a lie down on the foredeck to get the transom up.

the wee blue is pretty tidy for her age but as with all boats, shes going to be an expensive mistress!
i see what you are saying with the weight distribution.... i hadnt even considered weight aft with all the other stuff we had going on.... for sure something to consider going foward. We were pretty happy with how the day went considering none of us have sailed in 30 years and none of us are/were experienced sailors to begin with...
all in all a beautiful day out and a successful dip for blue...

Good stuff. Cracking location, where is that boat ramp? Is that a massive long walkway / dock so that millions of boats can que at the ramp? That last photo looks like a painted boat on a painted ocean.

hehehe... yup it for sure looks like an rc boat or a painting...
the pier to the left is (of course in Queens town) a private access to the marina.... no access for us fee paying schlubs!

nothing scenic has happened since the last update... we did go sailing out of kingston , which was excellent since we had a few knots of wind... maybe 5... mostly prep work for an upcoming stewart island trip...
re-arranged the forestay to put the stay ahead of the sail foot...
ive rotated, swiveled and saved that fecking image to try to get it correct..... do with it as you will....
i updated the interior lights to working...
and im done posting pics... FFS.
i also jiggered the rear mast support to allow me to stand the mast solo....
removed and reattached the pulpit... the fixings were fukt so i drilled and tapped for m8 bolts, also cut tapered shims so that the front feet sat flush(er)
finally i cleaned the old seal off the front hatch....
and replaced the seal.... mmmm sealy!
as youse can tell by the high quality pics i have been busy.... she is still very much a work in progress..... but im getting there...
happy days!!
Phish
(edit: well fuk me with a shovel and call me doug. if you click on the pics they are the right way up... ill add some more and see if that works...) (edit: IT VERKS!)
