I see Mr Fogg is having another day full of joy and positivity ** Had a couple of Aussies staying the last few days, one is NZ born but been there for decades. They are as positive about Aussie as Mr Fogg is about NZ. One thing that has gobsmacked them while here, how much the NZ media promotes Aussie. You see bits and bobs but when they started pointing it out holy crap there is shedloads of it. They were amused/disappointed in the way it only promotes the better extremes and never touches everyday reality. Gosh, who would have expected that from the media. ** - I followed by a wee blaa blaa about how big a bundle of joy he could be if he didn't have the trappings that come with getting out of bed and getting shit done. But while doing that I started pondering along the lines of 'has society gone off the rails that much even those with clues and means are now finding it tricky/nasty/just un fucking pleasant/something along those lines?' So I deleted the blaa blaa while I ponder on the other bit a bit longer.

Unfortunately this is pretty much the case in most western countries esp Australia, USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden etc thanks to the "wonderful" UN/EU driven policies of mass immigration, multi-culturalism and diversity Exceptions that come to mind (and welcome to be corrected) in Western Europe are Switzerland and probably Norway, notably neither EU members. Spain and Portugal have f**kd economies In our region Singapore and Malaysia immediately come to mind as exceptions, there are others but rather more 3rd world.

Every city has a shithole area. Nothing new. I haven't been down Queen Street for as long as I can remember. At least a decade, probably 15 years. On the nightlife aspect, there are many other areas to go. Every time I've caught up with mates recently in the 'city', it has always been in Newmarket. Closest I'd get to the CBD would be North Wharf. Couple of promising establishments along there. Used to frequent establishments on Ponsonby Rd, completely different vibe to the CBD. Recalling my Viaduct days, would have been in a past life, single male boozing with mates and on the prowl. Always ended up at Danny Doolans, which always went downhill. Thoroughly validated the saying "nothing good every happens after midnight". Never had a problem feeling safe, mainly because, just like in any international city, you have to apply your own personal judgement on where to go and how to behave when you are there. For example I've never been out after midnight in Croydon. Or Liverpool for that matter.

Had an appt downtown a week ago and dropped the wife off bottom of queen street for some shopping. Picked her up disgusted and never wanting to return 2 hours later. We lived in and enjoyed central auckland up until 7 years ago. Couldnt care less if i never had to go there again (sadly i do)

I've developed very strong aversion to travelling over the bridge even just to Westhaven. When into Queen Street a month or so back at 7pm ish, if I clockout before going back I won't be disappointed.
But CZ is right, cities are cities and they all share the same issues. Sure they have different buildings and some use funny words but everyone I can think of and have been in the last decade is not really that different to Auckland or any other NZ city, even the capital of far flung places like Mongolia has the exact same issues Auckland does, congestion, crime, housing, inequality. In our recent daddy and daughter Central American roadie the same, cities with some cool buildings, sights and people but also issues and definite no go zones.
And now with the global village all the cities also have all the same shops selling the same chinese made trinkets and style of attractions i.e. zip lining (flying fox) seems to be the latest must have.

Was in Welington earlier this yr.Lampton Quay no issues, but head past Cuba mall and out to the zoo area.Yes its a zoo, homeless, drugged out thugs. "Got any money?" Would you like a me to buy you a burger. "fuck you I want $10" and there were several of these types hanging around Te Papa.
Might live a tough part of Auckland (Papakura) but most just shake a cup say nothing.

what people don't seem to realise is that there isn't some HUGE underground sea of humanity waiting to be found and shared people aren't born thwarted angels just waiting for their shackles to be broken so they can serve god and humanity rather, we are simple animals that through great and continual struggle have learned that civilisation serves us and our children better than the animalistic "i see, i want, i take" that has ruled most of human existence people of course want to but can't expect towithdraw more from the bank of human rights than they'll ever put in By August 2021, when he received a five-month home detention sentence, Hamlin had 105 convictions on his criminal record, mostly for theft or shoplifting.
The offences for which Hamlin was sentenced in February were on top of these 105 convictions, and involved more than $5000 worth of stealing overall, yet Hamlin did not feel he deserved another jail term. He appealed his prison sentence to the High Court, saying he should have been given intensive supervision instead.www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/relentless-shoplifter-lukin-hamlin-loses-high-court-appeal-against-prison-sentence/LF7HHRZOXFFC7JHFPFL4MIWU4Y/these are jacinda's children
and given the chance
they'll forever deny any responsibility to the group and take whatever they can get
which, given the chance, is everything

The media is still not happy it lost the election so it could easily be a case of them just highlighting more of the bad now they aren't being paid to keep it a little more on the down low.
Hard to say with the media in such a tissy and general mess.
But as the world is plunging at increasing speed to the place where Demolition Man and The Hunger Games are documentaries, the population will become more feral.

Yeah sounds about right. Although I’ve never watched either of those two programs but given the context you’ve used them I can guess what they might be themed on.

We never used to have South Africa style gun crime in NZ pre-gun register.

Moved D1 into a place one building back from Ponsonby Road a while back. I was chatting other last night about another impending Daddy and Daughter Road trip (to another real WTF like place) and she said 'Oh someones letting off fireworks just outside'...................... and then a few minutes later the sirens started.
In other news, another floater in Bayswater this morning apparently, word is a live abroad. Hopefully the word is just an inaccurate rumour.
