Slater on the financial mess left behind by Labour, thebfd.co.nz/2023/12/18/truth-will-out/lots of quotes from this paywalled Herald piece by Stephen Joyce www.nzherald.co.nz/business/labours-record-so-much-spent-so-little-achieved-steven-joyce/GOFNYKJW6JESJCVVEMDIBKJNNQ/excerpt from Herald piece It’s hard to understand how they could be so profligate, yet also so ineffective. Other Labour Governments have had a reputation for big spending, but they haven’t been this bad. I think it comes down to four things. First, Ardern and Co wanted to be transformative. They didn’t have well-developed plans but they knew they didn’t want to do ordinary things. The first announcement Jacinda Ardern made as leader was light rail to Auckland Airport. It was an undeveloped idea and there wasn’t any real demand for it or any idea how much it would really cost, but it was different and new, and that was enough. Second, they believed they had a mandate to spend money, particularly as a result of the pandemic. During Covid-19, lots of Governments opened the spending spigots and these guys truly drank that Kool-Aid. Big Government was back. Interest rates were low, so you should borrow more and more. A bike bridge to Birkenhead, no worries. Light rail in Wellington, absolutely. Rainbows and unicorns for everyone. Third, they had no idea how to execute, and no willingness to trust the private sector in any way to execute and make tradeoffs for them. Their deep suspicion of anyone who didn’t work for the public sector is now legendary across so many fields, but it particularly bit them in the backside on infrastructure, a field where most of the expertise the world over is in the private sector. And fourth, they were obsessed with restructuring and centralising everything, often for no rhyme or reason beyond leaving their mark. They were obsessive about their legacy, rather than just doing things that worked for the people who put them into office. Ironically, as a result, their legacy will be tiny. And so we have wasted so much time and so much money. Just think what roads, pipes and hospitals we could have built with the money that slipped through the Government’s fingers over that wasted six years. As I say, soul-destroying.

Come on HT, you know better than that, the whole issue is what was not in the financial statements in all the "off the books" expenditure and commitments. Remember Labour said,"Open and Transparent" so it must of been there for all to see?? Was Willis asleep in the house while Labour went on the spending spree? Can’t work out if Harry is serious or sarcastic or still blinded by Jacinda star dust. Meanwhile auditor general calls out $15bn of poor spending. That’s just the stuff he has looked at.

So let’s be clear Robertson does not deny he left a shit show, just that National should have look closer. No one calls him out on that. Just bought a multstrada. 2016. Loving it. Robertson is proud of what he left or so he reckons. Mind you they all seem proud to some degree leaving messes behind and it's across the board not just the lastest bunch.
Anyway more important things, Ducatis. Another Multi, there is a rash of that going on at the moment. I wonder what's behind that? Which one did you get?

HaHa I test rode a BMW 650 something for the boy,40 since on a bike and be another 40 before I get back on one. Yes I will be dead by then BMW don't make a 650 but another manufacturer does who brands them Beema. Nice machines all the same.
Going hard on even a small 650 after 40 years of not riding is a good way to make you dead as well, watch for that.

Now we've decided the world is indeed completely nuts I have a big Ducati wanting for me..... keep off Ararua Road for a while, big red is coming and she's doing it at pace. New tyres so I gotta have a suss Hope that is in a better state than Paparoa Rd, took the long way to Whangarei along it last weekend, what a dog's breakfast with all the road works. I appreciate it got chopped up with the Brynderwyn closure early in the year, but the repairs seem very haphazard. Ararua Road is all gravel/mud/clay and a mix of 'Good fun' thru to 'Oh crap'. The first time I thought I'd missed a turn and was going down some race but it was the road, in spots it gets very small. I slid off the top end a few months back when heading to a Tangi, all quite slow and straight sideways in the rain and clay. had to wait 45mins until a passer by helped me drag it out.
They are trying to patch up then Oakley/Paparoa road from the trucks last Brenderwyn shut down so they can do it all over again when the shut SH1 down yet again.
Some of the road repair crews up that way have been trained very heavily as Train Conductors, hence the quality of the patches. Some repairs are worse then the mess they tried to repair, it's crazy shit how bad some are.

What Ducati did you get?
I have put the multistrada in sport mode once so far. I have all the electronic controls set to medium/high as it puts out 160hp in that mode. Holey shit is the only emotion that comes to mind. I have wheelie control set very high 😂

Ah the belt drive one, nice. The look of the front still makes me think a bit but they do handle well. Price seems very fair if it is in as good nick which it looks in the photos.
We were allowed only 250cc max back in the day. Thats maybe why I'm able to write this What Ducati did you get? I have put the multistrada in sport mode once so far. I have wheelie control set very high 😂 Oh the big boys 1260/V4, nice. We sussed one of them but reckoned they were too big for NZ so went with the 950S Enduro, only a mere 115hp.
I tend to use Touring more myself as in Sport as she wants to run so much you can find yourself doing 150 without noticing, yours would be dynamite at that I'd expect. As soon as the seal goes I swap to Enduro mode. 50% engine power, minimal front end ABS only and traction control totally off. I have been known to use City mode once or twice when leaving a yottie after 2 or 3, no power and full everything so go to give her some and there is no one home
Recently changed from Karoo3 60/40's to Anakee somethings which are more a 80/20. The new ones are FAR nicer when giving a nudge on the road, off they are a little looser when nudging but quite benign when you need. The Karoo were great off the seal but on it they did generate a few puckerings.

By all accounts it was already sold to someone who paid a deposit waiting on finance living in England but coming out here soon.Showed Mr salesman folding but wouldnt do the deal.So boy buys a Gs??250 brand new $5 k includes on rd + delivery to home. Thats a relief to me as not keen on riding a bike again. Boy did a basic course Sunday so off the VTNZ for theroy then early January does the 8hr riders course (ACC) for free. So maybe doing it right. Salesman who sold him the bike made a tentive trade in offer if he upgrades within 12 months, seemed pretty fair to me.Holeshot on the shore.

national created the rockstar economy "You were a big exporter of dairy and meat products, getting a big influx of tourists promoting growth as well."labour killed it with a thousand cuts and now we pay the price theoretically it's not hard to get back there we just need; smart, diligent, productive people at all levels and that means moving the dull, lazy, unproductive sloths away from positions of importance where all they do is ask for more without producing anymore "There needed to be a focus on looking for the things that New Zealand did best to grow the economy, he said.
"A clearer focus on what the growth engines are and how to best make use of those to grow the economy. Deregulation ought to play a role, making labour markets as flexible as possible ought to play a role."improving productivity and flexibility of the supply side of the economy would be a big question for the upcoming Budget to address.www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/517354/what-will-it-take-for-nz-to-be-a-rockstar-economy-again

national created the rockstar economy National created sfa. Lord Sir John, (the guy now getting sued for corrupt trading) imported a ton of people and GDP grew. GDP per capita was absolute rubbish, but they never reported on that. Of course the last bunch of muppets imported more people than ze gnats were ever game to import but it's done jack squat for our economy.

RockStar to Rock Bottom Not disagreeing on the latter part. But there was a little shaky thing down in your namesakeland that made a big difference to us not noticing the gfc. If the shaky thing didn't happen, he wouldn't have come out of the shithouse quite so covered in gold.
