A friend of mine - with a small tech company - said he would offer relocation & jobs to (1) Developers and (2) Supermodels 🙄 I once employed a highly capable engineer who was Slovakian, blond, smoulderingly hot and single, in London. At the time she was working as a receptionist in a hotel due to barriers into professional work. I was working for a large corporate in the civil construction sector. The environment was extremely sexist, where men were men and women were receptionists. Every time we had a meeting the male manger would turn to the nearest female and order tea for all of the attendees, regardless of that woman's role. When she walked in for the interview, before she had even sat down, my boss said there was no chance we could employ her, as she would just cause too much trouble (or distraction), based on her 'appearance'. I convinced the boss to give her a go, and she went on to have a very successful professional career and has been acknowledged with industry awards. Noting that she would not make anyone tea under any circumstances. I should also add that large parts of the story have been redacted to protect the reputation of those involved. My boss was right...

A video reportedly taken in Bucha, north-west of Kyiv, shows a Russian armoured vehicle using its loudspeakers to tell civilians to remain calm. A man wielding a rocket-propelled grenade strolls up to the vehicle and calmly destroys it.
Watching a prolonged and bloody siege of Kyiv would further enrage public opinion in large parts of the world, and could thus lead to even harsher sanctions on Russia. Though the measures that came into force on February 28th have definitely been noticed—roubles to the tune of $15bn have been withdrawn from banks, adding 10% to the amount of cash in circulation—their full effect will not be seen for “two to three weeks,” according to a respected economist. That is when stocks of consumer goods will run down, new supplies will fail to arrive, and spending all those roubles will get a lot harder.
Some Russian importers are already laying off staff. More will do so soon, as will restaurants running out of imported fish and meat. Russia, one economist says, is sliding back into the post-Soviet 1990s, the dismal period which Mr Putin says was forced on it by the West before he liberated it. Inflation could be anywhere between 40% and 80% if imports are frozen. The middle class looks likely to be shredded. Meanwhile the free media is gagged. On March 3rd Echo Moskvy, a liberal radio station on the air since 1991, was shut down.
“What if Turkey closes the border, how will you come back?” a middle-aged lady with a dog asked a younger woman leaving Russia for the first time. “I have no plans to return,” came the answer.

No one has mentioned refugees yet. As in NZ bringing in loads of refugees. Maldova is full. literal, 1 in 8 kids in Maldova right now is from Ukraine, the Maldovans are sharing their houses, and they are literally full. Love to see Adern's compassion actually equate to meangful action. Doesn't have to be random refugees with no links to NZ. There are plenty of Ukrainians in NZ with connections to family over there, create a visa category and bring them in. I tell you, the govt are monitoring this forum... Poultry numbers, but at least it is a start. Statement from Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi: Fast-track measures to support Ukrainians to stay in NZ, return here immediately The Government is putting in place fast-track measures to support Ukrainians to remain in New Zealand or to return here immediately. “New Zealand was one of the first to give humanitarian support to Ukrainians when Russia invaded, and although we know the numbers are small we are fast-tracking support for Ukrainians to remain in or return to New Zealand immediately,” Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi said. “Ukrainian nationals in New Zealand whose visas expire before the end of the year can remain here legally for a further 12 months to give them certainty at a time when their country is being invaded and they may not be able to return home. “Latest figures show about 300 Ukrainian citizens in New Zealand are on temporary visas with 140 expiring before the end of the year.“ Further, 250 or so Ukrainian citizens holding valid New Zealand visas offshore will now be able to enter New Zealand immediately without waiting for the borders to reopen, as long as they meet COVID-19 health requirements to travel.

But this isn’t for refugees it’s for Ukrainians already eligible to be in / travel to NZ ie they already have visas.
What we need is a real offer to allow in some genuine visa-less Ukrainians ASAP. I have two different Ukrainians friends living here in NZ with family over there desperate to get them here if possible - so no shortage of applicants. Better still these would he Ukrainians coming here with existing family in NZ do an immediate support network which is always better than no contacts.

8.57am: The BBC is reporting a small number of British soldiers have disobeyed orders and may have travelled to Ukraine to fight. "The soldiers were absent without leave and may have gone to Ukraine," BBC said. U.S. concerned Russia could potentially be preparing to use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine after the Russian Ministry of Defense said Ukraine may be planning a false flag chemical weapon attack, per administration official.
9.01am: The Russian Ministry of Defence has confirmed the use of the TOS-1A weapon system in Ukraine, according to the UK Ministry of Defence. Russia's accused of using some of the most brutal weapons in existence in Ukraine. The UK Ministry of Defence said the TOS-1A uses thermobaric rockets, creating incendiary and blast effects.

Putin is marching through Ukraine virtually unopposed whike taking the world economy into dangerous Territory. A interesting plan and interesting timing.
At the same time, he has lost all the wests influence and investment in his country.

we know the russians try to meddle in american elections, but deny it we know they have used banned radioactive and nerve agents to kill critics in other countries, but deny it they've just passed a law allowing a jail term of 15 years for any russian who criticises the armywe know they said their military wasn't going to invade ukraine, but it always was going to do so and we know they used chemical weapons in syria, but lied about it we know they support legions of useful idiots in the west, and have done so for over 100 years we know that ukrainians want a free future with europe and not be a vassal state of russia we know that the russians have always lied and under president-for-life-putin will send their young military conscripts to die in borders wars, even though they said conscripts wouldn't be used starting to see a pattern? don't be another useful idiot

You’d think VP would’ve mentioned it by now ? Like added it to his hour long rant about the US encroaching on his borders with missile shields or whatever and NATO countries trying to encircle him . A tactical move would be to smoke those labs and let the infections take care of the Ukrainians while you kept a safe distance .

putin has found a way to stop the bad press of returning coffins
The claims that some Russian soldiers were literally forced into the war with Ukraine come after Britain’s Defense Ministry released footage it said showed Russia was using mobile crematoriums to conceal its own soldiers’ deaths from the world.
Defense Minister Ben Wallace told The Telegraph the vehicle-mounted crematoriums “evaporate” each body placed inside them.
He described the crematoriums as a “very chilling side effect of how the Russians view their forces.”
“If I was a soldier and knew that my generals had so little faith in me that they followed me around the battlefield with a mobile crematorium, or I was the mother or father of a son, potentially deployed into a combat zone, and my government thought that the way to cover up loss was mobile crematorium, I'd be deeply, deeply worried,” Wallace was quoted saying.
