I'm picking Drwright is a under forty political graduate of some far left woke University that brain wash the gullible into the "theory of life" without a practical quotient being allowed. Coincidently someone suggested to me he/she/it/XYZ/STD/ABC/Whatever the Dr maybe the product of a Uni and specifically one in the South Island.
Being a dumbarse as close as I got to Uni were the Akl Uni engineering Dept piss ups, they were off the charts especially after the chemistry students arrived with their 'experiments' so no idea what's being seen in the posts to suggest those calls. The coincidence I thought was interesting though.
Watched some clips out of the Ukraine/Russia last evening. I think Putin may have dramatically over estimated the worlds reaction but then is is a cunning fecker and will have seen how the world screams blue murder when things like this kick off but sadly that fades away pretty quickly or when the media decide they want to cover something else instead. So maybe he plans to go in fists flying while copping crap knowing that in a few weeks the world will have moved onto the emerging Zeltnacron variant, the one that makes boobies triple in size, but Putin will have control of the Ukraine. It's not like this is the first time he's done exactly that and the world let him do it.
concur with those thoughts G . Pootin knows the world will not take offensive action... But they could. . Help Ukraine by.. Blocking every Road into Ukraine with land mines. Sending green PEACE workers to walk the streets WITH FLAGS SAYING Kill us first if you dare! Send a small missle back up the gas line to Russia π₯π₯ Send our top negotiater to Pootin with a deal on like " be kind or we will send in James Shaw to talk to you!" Get the yanks to target the 56 mile convoy with a air strike in planes with Belarus markings Get Ukraine signed into NATO today!

Yeah, the world talks big but walks rarely. Personally I'd take out 3 of Putins closet oligarchs then drop him a txt saying 'You now have 4hrs to get those troops heading east again or we'll take out 3 more. The 4 hrs then resets and if no action 3 more get taken out. You are number 13 on the list'
Send a big message to all the top end and let them help pressure Putin.

In early December New Zealand's Secretary of Defence warned that "Russia has acted in a range of ways that challenge the international rules-based system β¦ including using military force against β¦ Ukraine."
"Russian activities present an acute and ongoing threat", Secretary Andrew Bridgman said in the five-yearly independent Defence Review.
It is a sober document. "New Zealand faces a substantially more challenging and complex strategic environment than it has for decades," the report stated. The basis of our security that nations will follow international law is no longer valid.
The Review finds our defence capabilities do not suit a Pacific that is not dominated by the US Navy. Our most capable defence units are to fight in places like Afghanistan. In the Pacific we only have a civil defence capability.
The report goes on to list the most threatening potential developments, including:
β’ The establishment of a military base or dual-use facility in the Pacific by a state that does not share New Zealand's values and security interests: Such a development would fundamentally alter the strategic balance of the region.
The Straits Times claims Kiribati has accepted China's aid to build "Runways, ports, harbours and communications facilities [that] can also be used for military purposes."
The report calls for a defence force that is focused on the Pacific "that can deliver credible military effects both independently and as part of broader international efforts."
The report warns; "An increased priority and focus on New Zealand's neighbourhood will require trade-offs".
Cabinet has ignored the report. The Prime Minister has so little interest in defence that she first gave the portfolio to New Zealand First and then to the MΔori Caucus.
In my view Peeni Henare is totally unqualified to be Minister of Defence but, in fairness, there is no one better qualified in Labour's caucus.
The Minister's "New Defence Principles" are an incoherent babble. He wants to make the treaty part of our defence strategy. His spending priority is "buildings that are healthy, safe and fit-for-purpose". No doubt needed. Warm, dry housing will do nothing to defend our interests in the Pacific.
Those seeking to challenge New Zealand in the Pacific know that having wasted 30 years of fiscal prudence this country will be challenged to fund the Defence Review recommendations.
Jacinda Ardern's "Captain's call" to ban the exploration of offshore oil and gas has made New Zealand dependent on imported energy that we are feeling at the pump.
The most important lesson from the invasion of Ukraine is that we have to be willing to defend our freedom. If we are not, no one else will do it for us.

www.nzherald.co.nz/business/richard-prebble-russias-invasion-of-ukraine-has-lessons-for-new-zealand/5VAKPFP7LU7JYL2KG3GNN5A2FQ/ . This bit is the reality. After all we have no NATO... The most important lesson from the invasion of Ukraine is that we (NZ) have to be willing to defend our freedom. If we are not, no one else will do it for us. However we could all relocate to the Big Island of the coast ... Not Australia.... The island called - Nania Mahuta

You mean one of our big, mean, fully-loaded nuclear carriers? Sorry no can do - apparently you guys donβt like those things in your waters. Good luck though! There is no way, none what so ever, Aussie could allow a nasty to take over NZ, and we tend to share the same nasties. So Aussie would have to act if someone went after NZ. Then there is no way, none what so ever, the US could allow a nasty to take Aussie, and they tend to share the same nasties so the US would bolster it's already large presence in Aussie.
If NZ looks to be falling to the nasties, the US would rock up, it has no option but to do so. All they would need to do is control the skys over NZ, which would be easy as flying out of Aussies east coast bases, and nay nasty would find NZ not only very hard to get to but then hard to hang onto.
But why invade NZ when you can buy it a for less cost of both money and blood.

Iβd like to think youβre right but in a high-stakes game this I donβt think itβs enough to rely on a βstrategy of hopeβ which is what your scenario is.
If we have some signed-in-blood agreement with US & AUS that says they will protect us then great. But I doubt we have that when we canβt even get the US to sign a trade agreement with us.
Being part of 5 eyes is not the same as being part of NATO which would guarantee protection from others.
