Doing farming yesterday, which is sort of like swimming but with extra added mud and lots of it, and listening to the transistor to here some wokies going on about how farmers are arse for not buying EV utes. They were going well until one lady rang and brought up one of the Achilles heals all wokies have serious struggles with, a thing called reality. By the time she had laid out the facts about how many farms are solar and/or have limited power supply then threw in stuff like how Toyota has just done a massive hydrogen deal and then EV recycling issues to top it off with EV fires and that Jag notice, the wokies got most upset and tried to refute most but only made total arses of themselves. It wasn't that far off a episode from the 3 Stooges

April 2024 Ruc charges to apply $76 oer 1000km.So price of ev and rucs still cheaper than ice Now hybrids fuel tax and rucs no longer attractive But ruc is not a wof requirement so only time you would get caught if stopped by a cop or change of ownership.Dont have to provide mileage for Rego but wof agencies note mileage so may get caught if Waka kotahi actually took notice or did random check.so charge rate as a small diesel vehicle

This is potentially catastrophic in terms of the precedent it will set. The private company behind this deal is notoriously uncaring about their mining methods. This will accelerate the devastation of our oceans which we are only beginning to understand the importance of. We’ve trashed much of world’s landmass and now we are moving on to trashing the oceans. And I’m not just talking about fishing sticks. It’s the whole shebang. And one of the primary drivers is fucking electric cars which as we all know are far from ‘green’ and require a frightening amount of new battery production. And there’s now a move to mine the oceans for multi-mineral nodules instead of doing more land mining.

Didnt they mine Naru for phosphate for the fertilizer industry? now want to totally fuck it by deep sea mining

Seriously CZ? An electric car makes bigger potholes? Lacking a bit of credibility there. Trye and break performance 2,000 times worse? With regenerative breaking, how does that work? What are they comparing against? A nifty fifty? The other big blind spot is the fuel burnt over the life of an ICE car. Sure EV's aren't as great as they are made out, but if you are going to argue it, do it in a credible way.

What are they comparing against? A nifty fifty? The other big blind spot is the fuel burnt over the life of an ICE car. Sure EV's aren't as great as they are made out, but if you are going to argue it, do it in a credible way. Shhhhh....... but CZ is far from alone in thinking that to assorted degrees. Many have said the including a dude who you'd expect to have a few clues, one Elon Musk, who has said yes the extra weight is not the best for the roads but as battery tech moves along that will improve. I also was told that by a tech at a big name tyre brand place only a few months back, he did say battery cars do wear tyres faster.
Some of these electric manufacturers do seem quite open about the not so good in comparison to ice's. Most follow their comments with 'as technology comes along these will decrease' though. Audi have said their battery cars are worse than a ICE for the first 60,000km then the balance swings. But they also say they only build cars to last 100,000km which seems a weird thing to say out loud.
And then there is the elephant in the whole debate, when does a NZ driven EV catch up to a NZ driven ICE on comparison to say an Aussie EV and ICE. The answers are very different as NZ us 80% renewable power and Aussie is not even close. In NZ EV's will turn greener than a ICE quicker than most countries around the world, in some countries EV's will never be greener than a ICE.

and yet another fire on a ship carrying EV's www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/360711/fremantle-highway-fire-ship-carrying-3000-cars-burns-dutch-coast"...The race is on to prevent the sinking of a cargo ship off the Dutch coast which is carrying almost 3,000 vehicles, including 350 Mercedes-Benz, as it burns out of control with an electric car believed to be behind the deadly fire. At least one crew member died and others were injured after fire ripped through the Fremantle Highway, a 18,500-ton car-carrying vessel. Rescue helicopters and boats evacuated 23 crew members from the Panamanian-registered ship. Officials have said there are 'many' wounded. Some suffered broken bones, burns and breathing problems and were taken to hospitals in the northern Netherlands, emergency officials said...."

facing some reality on EV charging requiring electricity that might not be available thebfd.co.nz/2023/07/29/evs-are-a-bit-shite-31/"Queensland risks putting the brakes on the transition to electric vehicles if a state-owned energy company is given the power to switch off home charging stations, according to the industry body." Or, to put it another way: Queensland is making the “mistake” of telling just a bit of the truth about EVs. Namely, that when EVs reach a critical mass, the power grid will collapse under the strain of trying to charge all the damn things when people are trying to charge them at the same time.
