It’s easy to get a bit myopic in an election year and miss the fundamental drivers of fuel prices . I’ve read a few political pieces that also think the Saudi’s and Russsia are throttling production to influence the upcoming US elections …A trump win would really help both of those countries . There’s nothing like high fuel prices during an election year to incense the population , as we are finding out right now . You would be Naive to think that any NZ politician could influence the price of crude oil ….also if we did have our own supply and refined it there no guarantee it would be cheaper , just look at dairy products as an example . P.S This is not an endorsement for the Labour Party or EVs just a look over the parapet at what’s happening outside our wee country . apnews.com/article/saudi-arabia-oil-production-cut-opec-2d6f724e899f31e92d4bdf052921125cfunny you mention dairy industry.Askwd that question with Fonterra why milk is cheaper overseas.Answer someone's got to pay the subsidy so we can export.

Then when Biden got in he (or whoever is actually calling the shots there behind the scenes) cancelled the Keystone pipeline and a whole lot of other initiatives which once again placed USA at the mercy of OPEC and other producers. If Trump's status quo had been maintained OPEC et al would have much less leverage. Same issue with their EPA, their Clean Energy Plan pays no attention to the realities of maintaining a stable grid www.tribdem.com/news/editorials/columns/matthew-kandrach-epa-s-plan-to-break-electricity-grid/article_9543ca08-4da3-11ee-9288-7bdf59e686e2.html

Depends where you shop. We're finding leave the cities and things get cheaper fast.
The Wa commented she can buy some basics at Maungi 4 Square cheaper than any city supermarket. Maungi Caltex is often the cheapest gas we see, Paparoa and Maungis GAS gas stations are often right in there as well. Wellsford GULL is generally has been the best with diesel but recently not so much. The new fish shop Trev fillets for $26 a kg, some species less. Country butchers are still butchers like our town go to who are still a butcher but there is a noticeable price difference in favour of the country. Also country often make their own bacon/hams etc and some of that is near worth killing for, mind you our townie real butchers do a very good job as well. Village market for veggies so fresh the dirt on them has yet to dry plus cheap as.
But country does pay more in many other places. Freight and travelling costs tend to be up there.

A mate deep in the same game told me about this. He reckons it's not much different in NZ just add in a 6 month time lag.
17 mins. Interesting and seems reasonably well balanced.

Is that possibly due to its contents i.e. did it assault the narrative so had to be disappeared?

Where can you drive to on Stuart Is? Isn't it about 500m from the wharf to the shop and another 500m to the pub, and that's it?
