so next move is for the toxic gang gweens, will they now invoke the law they opposed?
www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2024/09/tana_loses.htmlThe Herald reported:https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/green-party-given-all-clear-to-waka-jump-darleen-tana-after-failed-high-court-bid/6B5E5LMNIRBPHLW7BWKBRCWYIM/ The Green Party is clear to expel Darleen Tana from Parliament after the High Court declined Tana’s application for judicial review. The decision paves the way for party delegates to meet and decide whether to use the waka-jumping law to oust Tana from Parliament, where she now sits as an independent MP. This is as I predicted. It seems highly likely that the Greens will vote to expel her. Personally I still want the law scrapped. If parties select dud candidates, they should bear the consequences of their laxity rather than being able to just shuffle them off.

Liam Hehr on the Green's tangling themselves up with the Waka jumping law thebluereview.substack.com/p/on-the-bike-lane-to-hypocrisy?r=2hb21k&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=truesummarises For those trying to keep track, the Greens’ position seems to be this: Waka-jumping laws are fundamentally undemocratic and wrong—except when a coalition agreement forces us to support them, after which we will vote for their repeal to affirm our opposition, but then consider using them ourselves if a rogue MP becomes an embarrassment. We remain against them in principle, except in situations that demand practicality, which we will still oppose while acting upon them, so long as 75% of our members agree.

so just the basic narcissistic habit
of trying to enforce tough rules on others
while expecting soft rules on themselves

I really do not understand how you can appeal a conviction for which you pleaded guilty to. She said she did it, herself. So why would you now complain about being convicted? There are a bunch of controversial trails around NZ history of which I would think people would appeal their convictions, this is not one of them. I'm sure Scott Watson is watching this from cell block D going WTF?

It is interesting how the govt think they need to save Wellington. I think they should let democracy run it's course. Wellington like to vote for muppets, so let them reap what they sow. They wanted a Green Mayor, they voted a Green Mayor in, so now they need to live with a Green Mayor.
Just because the Council have already ditched their long term plan, supposed to last 10 years, lasted 3 months (was passed in July). They want cycleways everywhere, let them build cycleways everywhere, businesses be damned. They will soon learn that businesses are productive and cycleways are not. Cycleways cost money. But hay, you voted for them...
Sometimes people need to learn the fire is hot by putting their hand in it. Sure you can tell them the fire is hot, put a fire guard around it, put up warning signs "don't put your hand in the fire", but people can't truly learn a lesson by being told. Some people can only learn a lesson by experiencing first hand all of the negative consequences of their actions.
So, I say let Wellington burn. Let Wellington be a lesson to the rest of the Country what happens if you let the loonie left into power. Vote Greens, Vote Labour and watch your city burn to the ground. Hopefully the rest of our once great country learn the lesson and never vote these muppets into government again.
Brown, Luxon and Willis would be making a grace mistake intervening in Wellington. Let democracy run its course I say.

The situation might occur that the council increases all the rates on all government properties which means us taxpayers are caught again, and even worst the government pays them out, oops the taxpayers will pay them out. And the Wellington greens will congratute themselves by saying what a good job we have done with all these cycleways. I see a greenie has put her/"THEM" (you never know) hand up for major of Christchaurh......her name is "Cycleway Sara" www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/350450388/cycleway-sara-name-calling-begins-year-out-local-elections

Doesn't make sense to me, as it all falls on residential property owners and the last few productive businesses left.

Unfortunately thanks to her family being Fakugees she has NZ citizenship so cannot be deported. Reason she is appealing the conviction is she will have learnt/should have known that having a criminal conviction against your name can be quite restrictive in terms of being able to obtain travel visas (eg USA will not let you in thru the front door) and job opportunities

so the Gang Gweens are going to order a large side of dead rat and invoke the Waka Jumping Law to out Tana from parliament. Always finding new ways to demonstrate their hypocrisy It's a thing of beauty isn't it! Surely Tana won't resign though, she'll make the muppetshow force her out so they do have to use the waka jumping bill. Quite possibly the best thing about this saga is the clownshow that is going to replace Darleen! Let me know if you get past the 3rd sentence of the intro to his thesis, I'll buy you a beer... Abstract Here is a Master’s thesis crafted with, by, and for Rangatahi Takatāpui. It represents a labour of love for the community to which I belong, and seeks to generate understanding about the factors that enable LGBTQI+ Māori youth to embody and enact Tino Rangatiratanga. Principles of Kaupapa Māori Theory provide a paradigm through which this research is conducted, with particular attention paid to the Indigenous Research Agenda. Importantly, this rangahau seeks to offer an alternative to the conventions of hegemonic empirical academia by centering the voices and lived experiences of those who have historically been subjected to the dehumanising objectification of Western research practices. Through the methodological approach of wānanga, and within a Tikanga Māori framework of Āta, or cultural safety, twelve Rangatahi Takatāpui participated in a two day workshop at Te Kohinga Mārama Marae. Over the course of both days, co-researchers shared personal testimonies about their experiences navigating the world as Queer Indigenous peoples, as well as the dreams and aspirations they have for collective self-determination. These accounts ultimately inform the narrative storying employed to convey the key findings of this research, which are described as Mana Tuakiri (identity), Mana Hapori (belonging), Mana Moemoeā (vision), and Mana Wero (challenges). To make sense of the findings presented in this rangahau, a model is developed which takes inspiration from Te Takarangi, the double spiral motif common in both Toi Māori (art) and Te Tai Ao (the natural world). Utilising the cyclical and intersecting patterns of Te Takarangi, the four main themes of this research are explored through a progressive layering of personal, interpersonal, and societal relationships in order to provide insight into how best Rangatahi Takatāpui can be supported to enact Tino Rangatiratanga. Ultimately, this research present nine key factors to be addressed and implemented in order to achieve this aspiration, including a call for conscientisation (both the self and the collective), resourcing and support, the removal of barriers to access, community intersectional reflexivity, space for collective Indigenous dreaming, and an ongoing commitment to Te Tiriti justice.

Green Party really need to change their name, or maybe "green" as in "new and naïve" now fits?
"collective Indigenous dreaming" sounds like a solid policy development platform
Like Chloe, really has nothing to contribute to a Government, no ability to lead NZ into a prosperous healthy sustainable future, nor any desire to.
