Duck subscribes to the pay for your carbon sins religion. Green’s subscribe to the you not me religion. It’s a catastrophe, no more fossil fuels (except the ones they are happy to burn). I don't subscribe to it. Just pointing out it's available for those who do... Personally I think that if it's such a great thing then the govt should mandate it and the airlines would have to hard wire it into their ticket prices.

Retail crime was not a police priority under the last govt. Besides, when was the election? How much of a shit-fight would it have caused, after the Minister for Justice got DIC'ed, if the govt support partner spokesperson for Justice got arrested for theft? Mid election campaign?

There was a guy complaining the other day that a JP fleeced him out of $100k and the police had no time to get involved.

she's clearly not talking as other boutiques are now going public as they try to work out how widespread her kleptomania has been................which seems to show they've completely lost confidence in the police to protect their businesses "the owner of Wellington store Cre8iveworx emailed other businesses earlier today regarding a complaint she had filed last year.In the email, she reportedly mentioned Ghahraman by name and included images which allegedly showed the MP in the store, according to Stuff.A police spokesperson tonight confirmed to 1News a report had been filed with police on October 26 about an incident of shoplifting."

you reckon she pays for everything she takes from countdown + new world?

That she has not made a statement, not said anything at all, looks worse by the day. If I was on leave and there was an issue at work, I would deal with it. I have in the past. If that issue was threatening my entire career, being on leave would have zero to do with me dealing with it. That is, of course, if there was no way to deal with it. i.e. she's been nicking all this stuff and there is evidence. What options does she have now? Anyone with principles would just resign, but if you had principles you probably wouldn't be a common thief. The other option is to do a Kiri Alan, stay as MP and drawing the salary as long as possible. Deny the blindingly obvious, put the onus on the Police lay the charges, then use delay tactics like Kiri Alan all through the Courts. The benefit here is you are drawing an MP's salary the whole time, along with all the perks. If you can pad it out for 12 months you are $160k better off. In that time you might also be able to find some other job, one where your integrity doesn't matter. Maybe like being a lawyer or something? PS, if you aren't a registered lawyer when you break the law, you can't get struck off. But can you get registered / re-admitted to the bar after breaking the law? Then she could work as a defence lawyer, helping all the other thieves get off their charges.

Edgeler said, if an MP is convicted of an offence for which the maximum penalty is two or more years in prison, their seat in Parliament is automatically vacated. "The court lets Parliament know, the Parliament will let the Speaker know, and the Speaker will announce this seat has been vacated," he explained. Should Ghahraman be charged for shoplifting, the possible penalty for the allegations against her depends on the value of the items allegedly stolen.
"A conviction for theft of something over a thousand dollars, would be serious enough to vacate an MP's seat in Parliament," Edgeler said.If Ghahraman is required to leave Parliament, next on the Greens' list is former Wellington mayor Celia Wade-Brown, who didn't answer Newshub's calls today.www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2024/01/law-expert-graham-edgeler-on-the-factors-that-will-decide-whether-golriz-ghahraman-keeps-her-job-as-green-mp.htmlso even if the greens don't grow a spine and get back to working for nz there is an establish process to deal with dodgy, hypocritical law makers who don't have the cajones to do the right thing and resign

so ironic
immigrant family flees a country with barbaric sharia law
where theft can mean public amputation of a hand
9yo child becomes a well-known and well-paid criminal lawyer in her adopted country
then in her 40s starts needlessly stealing luxury items
she's not helping; herself
the green party
or nz
is a boomer needed to sort out this millenial mess?
is this linked to the 'loss of grace' mps feel when they lose elections and are forced into opposition......maybe she feels justified ripping off nz because we took 'her power', from her'?
or was she still stealing while in government?
possibly the nz's greens biggest crisis
how are they handling it?..........fiddling while rome burns
god help they ever get important roles in government and nz has a crisis!
another question - is the greens' co-leadership effective
or just worthless woke tokenism?
you'd think an effective leader, along the lines of helen clarke or john key, would have demanded, in confidence, the full-truth from gg before this became public
and based on those answers either decided to support them, as they fought injustice
or immediately cut them free as someone who has needlessly 'shat the nest'
but the nz left has lost effective leadership, standards and results recently
hence the last 6 years of backward drift while our quietly revolutionary government wrought destruction in the name of a 'fairer' tomorrow
destruction they were good at, rebuilding, not so much
so busy imposing laws and judging others they have no time left to judge themselves who knew!

the greens have vaguely denied other green mps were involved saying it's an unwarranted smear campaign i thought someone had been throwing stones at chole, clohe swarbrick? but now it seems the light shines into the dark corner of our other immigrant green mp, mexican menendez en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricardo_Men%C3%A9ndez_Marchmaybe gg was looking for wealthy whites to rip-off and ricardo gave her tips and acted as look-out?
if he was with her in the shop in wellington you'd have to assume that he not only knew but encouraged hertell us it ain't so marama!or is he not talking to you either?
or maybe you fully support non-whites stealing from white owned business (your racist mates have really tossed the tiger into the room of nz race relations haven't they....why not judge people by character instead of skin colour?...ooppss you'd fail that too)"Ricardo Menéndez March addressed his colleagues for the first time by quoting a favorite phrase of his: “Be gay, do crime.” The MP said that the reality is that migrant workers are sometimes forced to break the law, whether it means lying about their relationship statuses or overstaying their visas, “in order to have enough income to feed their children.”... .children? far too selfish and self-involved to have children
The rules were simply not made for us,” said March, who is a member of the Green Party. www.them.us/story/new-zealand-parliament-ricardo-menendez-march-queer-latinx-lawmaker-speechhopefully some media can nip round to ricardo and ask - has he ever been with gg when goes 'shopping'? - does he know that she has been accused of shoplifting luxury items multiple times? - does his "do crime" cover this situation seeing as she isn't poor and has no children? - should law makers be held to; higher. same or lower standards than the public? - should criminal lawyers be held to; higher, same or lower standards than the public when it comes to breaking the law - is it ok to break the law if you don't 'agree' with it? then with all those juicy answers they should zip round and ask shaw and davidson same get them on the record even if the record shows they feel they are above being held to account by the people who pay their wages
