Fair call I understand your reluctance . A quick “suss” as you call it of RAYC boat names and a bit of dot connecting with big business reveals a bit . I havent been to that part of orcland for a few years . A quick look at recent drone shots of Okahu bay make it clear to me why they possibly want it all for themselves . What a perfect setup for an elite club , shame about the pimple on its arse that’s the poor folks hardstand . I'm not that sure I'd be too quick in tarnishing that club as such. I know a lot of members, and many of them senior long term members, are very pissed off the club is so close to it all. From the bits I'm being told, gleamed, seen etc the clubs membership was never consulted about the clubs involvement and that are not happy at how this is panning out. I also understand many are reluctant to speak up due to what's happened to those who already have. We have been told by a couple of names who'd like to say things out loud they are unwilling to do so due to a connection to the club and the ramifications that may come if they do. From what I see they need to address the obvious issues they have around a small handful of bullies.

If the Landing is such a money spinner. Then AYBA/YNZ should approach council to lease it That post very strongly tells me your understanding of the 'quantum mechanics as they pertain to diminishing vectors of Class 3 Black holes beyond the Kepler Belt' is vastly superior than your understand of what the fuck we are talking about here.

Many keep saying how its a good money maker. Obviously the council doesnt think so. Then maybe AYBA/YNZ should invest in to The Landing Last few yrs ,since moorings moved from Okahu bay, havent seen The area full, always room. So that tells me it wasnt patronage enough. Only used the club yard 2 or 3 times if there more than could be completed in a tide. Use lean against local wharf and antifoul,no issue. Only thing you cant do is a major scrap off Have a look around your club. Winter series, are you getting 150 or so that you were getting in the 80s? That sends a message out as most clubs struggle to get fleets. Yachting is in serious decline. Look at Trademe or brokers same vessels been for sale 2 or more yrs. Yet the powerboat/trailer section has a regular turn over. Where was the fight when westhaven put in more berths and closed the haul out facility by the bridge?

Harrytom, What has the 1980's got to do with any of this? PS, we've established some time ago that you don't care. But your arguements as to why we shouldn't care either are laughable.

Yet the powerboat/trailer section has a regular turn over. Where was the fight when westhaven put in more berths and closed the haul out facility by the bridge? It's not about the money or wasn't. The mob running it got booted and as part of the lease they paid to looked after the area. Now they have gone You and I have to pay to look after the area but as the council is broke effectively no one will be looking after it any longer. The floating jetty is already busted and become dangerous. The ramp is fouling over, things that didn't happen prior to the Council, or more the Orakei Community Board, shutting the yard down while they do fuck all but fiddle with themselves.
It's about access to the sea front for you and my kids. While it very much seems you don't care about that you should as it's also going to affect Fishos and other trailer based boaters. Mind you if no one can launch their boat the fish will most likely be very happy.
I assume the Landing contractor was profitable as they did all the looking after and were providing a very valuable service to a pile of boats that had no other option. Now the Landing has gone those boats are fucked, all they can do is drive up a beach and we all know the bitching they will hear from a range of sources, including the muppets who shut the Landings down, about them fouling the water ways.

I do care that no haul out facilities but need to use vessel regularly, not a status symbol." I have a boat" never use it. True I may not have a moored vessel but thats not to say I dont have an interest, use one occasionally, Actually busy with other peoples, currently making a centre plate/rudder for a T/S. helping with local "sea scout boats" and often over the shore working on a 7.9. Okahu ramp.why would you use it? $2 ph to park/launch and no use in anything but a southerly. And have reports of vehicles tampered with.

Brooke van Velden posted on her FB today that she met with the Orakei Local Board, with a smiling photo infront of the RAYC. Noting Brooke is standing for election in Tamaki, and is the ACT deputy leader.
The reason I'm posting this is the response to the news she meet with the Local Board, at RAYC. 7 comments in the first hour. One about what a nice coat she was wearing, and 6 bringing up the Landing Hardstand, to "Tread Carefully" around RAYC The Akarana Trust and the Local Boaird, supporting keeping the hardstand, or asking her to meet with the AYBA to get the full story. Even I was a little surprised (or impressed) with the depth of feeling and vocalness about this issue, touched off by the mere mention an election candidate met with the Local Board.
Edit, to Brooke's credit, she has confirmed via the comments that she is meeting the AYBA tomorrow (Wed). Oh, and the coat she was wearing is 'Ted Baker'...

FUNDING WILL DICTATE OUR ACTIONS This is crunch week for the Auckland Yachting & Boating Association who are striving on your behalf to protect these facilities! We have to make a decision by Friday whether we continue fighting on your behalf for: A. THE RETENTION OF THE HARD STAND & HAULOUT AREA AT OKAHU BAY: • We have already overspent our legal budget. • We cannot continue without the funds! • Once lost there can be no replacement!

Not entirely sure what an electorate candidate can do about the local board and legal action, but interesting to hear her take on it. Certainly the photo of her and the silver-spooners infront of the RAYC got a fair bit of attention, 100% negative re closing the Landing. Will be gutted if AYBA have to can the legal action due to money. I didn't see the call for help until 9pm Friday, so a bit too late.

They will be adding it all up next week. If you send it in now it will still count. I am tapped out at $1k spread over several months. Some of it went to the bayswater fund which was kind of unintentional... But it is done now.

More 'The Landing' drama. Historic cannon stolen from The Landing, day before Council were going to move it into storage. They had to move it because they have closed The Landing (despite telling the High Court they haven't made a decision on closing it). Re-siting it was going to cost $40k, but the Local Board thought they better not do that until the dust settled on closing The Landing. Personally I couldn't give a fuck about an old lump of iron stolen by the British in Crimea 200 years ago, but what ever. I think it is interesting the Council have all these issues, items to relocate, because of the closure decision. www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/300896145/disgraceful-thieves-use-crane-to-steal-205yearold-cannon-from-auckland-waterfront

Thanks for posting! I wrote in one of those boxes that the cynic in me thinks this whole change was a done deal long before that form ever became a reality. Then two comment boxes down the new centre is called the Hyundai whatever the fuck they're calling it. It's so much a done deal that they've gone out and got a sponsor on board to stump up for the naming rights. See you next Tuesday springs to mind.

You will no doubt get one of those "How did we do" surverys from Council for completing their consultation form. The last one I did, under 'how can we improve' I put, ACTUALLY LISTEN TO US!
