Aren't there any leftie sailors in Aotearoa ?? And what is wrong with wokeism ?? Welcome AJ, I do apologise for aquaholics rudeness. If it is any consolation I tend not to bother reading his posts. I think there are many lefty sailors around here. In the context of this thread, I voted for this Labour govt. Twice. I am a slow learner... I still support Labour's fundamental lefty policies. That was to provide social housing / fixing our housing crises, and do practical things like provide school lunches, so that kids who's parents are drop kicks could get a good meal and actually learn at school and have a future. In my view, providing school lunches is one of the cheapest and most effective ways of breaking the longer term poverty cycle. Unfortunately its not happening. The key problem with this govt is they are not lefty anymore, but Authoritarian. There are substantial kerbs on free speach and a fundamental dismantling of our democracy, removal of the one person one vote foundation. Linking back to their lefty policies, they haven't delivered on any of it. Housing has become substantially worse, and substantially more children are classified as in poverty. That really pisses me off. Also please bear in mind that NZ politics is not very polarised, especially in comparison to the US. The two main parties are both completely centrist. It is the minor parties that are more classically left or right, noting we have an MMP system. On the free speech issue, did you see our PM's speech at the UN where she said freedom of speech is a weapon of war (in the context of social media control). I'm sure with your background as a SoPol Prof and veterans for peace, you must have some views on the value of free speech, and also on the principles of democracy, around one person, one vote. I'm keen to hear your views on this and look forward to an intelligent discussion

... Easy! American know it all's like you!👍😁 Now sling ya hook back to crew.orgy.lame.woke.leftielosers... Oh and welcome to the "real world" political site posing as a sailing website.…. Pull your head in aquaholic. That is not how we welcome people here. And none of us want to live in an echo chamber. AJ is an intelligent and well reasoned poster, and I'd rate his point of view over yours. Totally concur with the Fish. That post is seriously wrong in so many ways AH.

paywalled www.nbr.co.nz/on-the-record/arderns-star-has-fallen/from a BFD commenter summarising NBR had an article by Rachel Smalley claiming Arderns star has fallen. Even Smalley is predicting a shock resignation by Ardern before Christmas. Smalley writes that Ardern is on a hiding to nothing.....if she wins a third term, it will be with a coalition partner who will want their pound of flesh. If she loses, she leaves as a beaten PM which tarnishes her international brand. She writes that Ardern is admired internationally and would have a flood of job offers the moment she announces her resignation. Jobs that would keep coming for the next 20 years she reckons. Ardern has global ambitions and will leave at a time to gain the maximum leverage. I find myself agreeing with Smalley.Hope she resigns, as well as seeing her gone I get to collect $100 from a long standing bet that she will not make it to election night 2023

You guys are 2 faced. He will not fit in here like we don't fit there. And he will be another "deleted". AJ answer this one question honestly... Do you agree with Arderns politics?... If you answer yes then you will not fit with this site! If no then welcome and I apologize. Put your cards on the table.

Come on AH, ease up.
Don't buy into the divisiveness that Jahitler has propogated.
I'm personally interested in hearing other viewpoints. How does anything progress if everyone just backs into their trenches and abuses those with differing views?
My memory is a bit hazy but I certainly don't recall AJ ever forcing his opinion on to others like some have done here in the past.

I understand what you are saying but the "ships have left the harbour" on that scenario. We are divided. Be honest with yourself... Ardern has just doubled down on it Lib v Dem Lab v Nats Maori v whites Green v everybody Rugby v leauge. Crew v NZ Sailing . . We all live in echo chambers and enjoy the like minded discussion! Are Crew going to open small talk to us. No! Sure we/i can be above it all and accept AJs leanings but WTF... We all came over here to this "Ole comfy couch" to " chew the fat" on like minded issues for a reason ... A bit like boy scouts not allowing girls and the upper marae not allowing woman, and female clubs not allowing males, and labour party caucus not allowing the nats.... We all seek a group or organisations that suit our beliefs and ideas!!! To label it a Echo chamber is just trendy weirdo gibbajabber! . I'm not stopping AJ!... I'm Just firing a shot across his bow! If he answers my question i then can make my determination. I don't need a fish to speak foe me Wanda!

can't find the article but a recent one had phil goff saying the 1 thing he had learned from, and admired about, john key
was leaving politics before he was backstabbed by his mps or kicked-out by voters
jacinda was very convincing, a year? before her anointing by winston, in saying she never wanted nz's top job
so if she were now to say she wasn't going for the top job next election she could hospital pass this millstone to robertson
whoever her backers were who pushed andy aside when she polled better
should come out of shadows and fall on their swords
as they never helped her deliver

A year is a good time to do that. One can only hope. BUT, going back Comfort Zones post, who is Rachel Smalley? is that the dolly bird that reads the news? Nice looking and intelligent, but when has she become a sage political commentator? Why are news readers giving us opinions? Or is that the whole problem with the Legacy Media these days?

While there are FAR too many so called reporters who are really just political commentators I think Smalley has transitioned nicely from a 'pretty talking head reading the news' into a place where she is doing some deep digging and doing it pretty well I reckon. She is a little unique in that.
But who could the Labour party put up to replace Jacinda?
About the only one not to make a serious arse of themselves or has managed to claw some back after doing so would be Chippy. But he's to squishy to be a PM. Possibly there maybe someone in the 100 odd MPs no one bar their mummy knows even exist.
