As one Professor said, you are all going to get vaccinated in the next year, either voluntarily via a vaccine or involuntarily via COVID. I read a lot of the analysis and I am happy with my decision to get vaccinated. I am equally happy withe people's choice not to get vaccinated. I am unhappy that the government is holding me captive and blaming it on other people for not getting vaccinated. I will be unhappy if unvaccinated people overload the health system and impose costs on the vaccinated. I am more unhappy that the government's incompetence has put us in this position. Exactly. And let’s hope that 3.6m others feel same way at the next election.

Couple of posts this morning on the subject of our freedoms being eroded www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2021/11/cotterill_on_freedom.html#commentsand nothing like something from NZ's most polarising commentator thebfd.co.nz/2021/11/13/do-they-realise-how-bad-this-sounds/So what happens in the very near future when the people who were vaccinated back in May effectively have their vax status expire? How are all the work places and other institutions going to deal with this? As Slater says, quite rightly in my view, you cannot vax your way into freedom under this government, there will always be another obstacle. My prediction is, sadly, that NZ is going to meet it's "perfect storm" next winter with masses of sick vax'd people, rising interest rates, rising unemployment, many more businesses going to the wall and galloping inflation. How many know NZ is averaging near on 2 suicides a day? Kept very quiet in the lame stream media

Agree it could easily turn quite nasty. Especially given NZ has done really well in the last 12 months to kill off one it’s most attractive long-term assets -the ability to attract talented and wealthy immigrants who help drive economic growth.
Anyone who has been touched by the humanitarian or commercial catastrophe caused by NZ MIQ will have been put off for life the idea of building a personal or business relationship with NZ - just too risky. Plus the foreign tourism.
Better to look elsewhere to another country that doesn’t have the same history of such brutal & abrupt shut-down and shut-off.
Btw, what’s the rationale for the predicted high rates of sick vaxxed people?

Transcript of a conference call I had yesterday with a senior US colleague based on the W coast:
Him: OK, just so I understand, you guys have got nearly 90% vaccinated and you’ve still got the whole country shut off, right?
Me: Yup.
Him: AND you’ve shut down your biggest city?
Me: Yup.
Him: How many cases have you got?
Me: I think yesterday we had about 200 cases.
Him: (Pause)…. You know what, I think yesterday we had about 200 cases out of our local Starbucks!
Me: Please don’t start me… I’m thinking of a transfer btw.

I think the surge thing is being overplayed, the numbers are rising, there is a bit more to it. In particular Israel is allways portrayed as a highly vaxxed country, this has not been true for a long time. I graph it fairly regularly and there are some pretty obvious relationships to vaccination. Need a couple more weeks to see it for sure this time but there is a definite relationship between vaccination level and deaths. I believe the waning immunity thing is a bit overdone too, maybe elderly and immune compromised benefit from boosters but in general the immune response is still good, this is mention in a number of official reports, NZ UK and others. The big rises in cases mentioned in the news no longer seem lead to equally big rises in hospitalisation and deaths, higher vax rates correlate with less response in deaths.

Unfortunately, even dumbed down to this level, the data is too hard for most people to grasp. The MOH, UK equivalent and others continuously make the point in their reports and updates that vaccines effectiveness in hospitalisations and deaths reduction remains high. The media however just headlines high rise in case numbers in whatever country is experiencing a blip, even when it is not relatively that high, there is no context, just alarm and fear mongering. Nothing in the media about the massive, truly incredible, drop in case numbers in Israel ( or Fiji ) Meanwhile the corruption and incompetence gets glossed over.

Seymour is challenging the “No job = no job” mandate and asking for unvaxxed workers to be given alternative of frequent testing. This seems to be a fair & pragmatic option for the minority who choose to remain unvaxxed.
Personally I’d like everyone to be vaxxed but I know that won’t happen and in that scenario I prefer to prioritise individual freedom of choice as a higher priority to mandates. So let people continue working and get access the same services as the vaxxed if they can show recent negative test.

Yeah what’s the scoop on approval for under 12s?
We’ve got a vulnerable 7yr old so keen to get him vaxxed ASAP.
