The Government is bracing for bad news and political turbulence as the risk of a recession worsens and it grapples with the fallout of its successful spend-up from its Covid-19 response.March-quarter gross domestic product, or GDP, figures released today are expected to bring fresh evidence of the negative effect the war in Ukraine, pandemic-related supply chain issues and rising inflation have had on growth. It is likely to make it more challenging for the Labour Government to convince the electorate it is doing a good job of managing the economy.www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/128970173/economic-slowdown-fears-mount-ahead-of-new-gdp-data

Arderns legacy will reflect in years of pain, debt, and depression.

Europe has a different cost structure to petrol and diesel to us. When I was in the UK (15 yrs ago now) petrol was the same dollar price in pounds as it was in dollars in NZ.
Then it was $3nz to a pound, but the price of petrol wasn't a third lower at all. I think they tax the bejesus out of it for a starter.

i've always worked on the principle that the actual cost of 'oil' is largely irrelevant
what's of bigger importance is the amount of tax that is whacked on top
the usa and australia have cheaper petrol but they use more of it..............so they end up paying the same $3000? a year fuel tax to drive their own car
the uk, japan, switzerland generally have slightly more expensive petrol because they drive slightly less than we do, meaning they still pay about the same $3000 in private car fuel
taxation
nz is somewhere in the middle, we don't drive as much as the australians or americans but we drive more than the average brit, jap or swiss
so we still pay about the same $3000? in fuel tax for the privilege of 'freedom of movement'

Here in Warkworth, which is probably most expensive fuel in Auckland region, diesel is about $3.05 and 91 is around $3.20. Glad I filled CZ's fuel tanks a couple of months ago (300 litres) and have a few extra jerry cans full. Fuel theft is going to become a major issue

On Tues in Auckland, Wairau Rd, 91 was $3.24, diesel was $3.06. I saw diesel for $3.10 up near my place...
The fuel light is on in my car. It is warning me I need to call the bank and extend the mortgage, or I will run out of petrol and have to walk...

Have a look for a NPD fuel station I have one near work and 20c cheaper than rivals, funny thing is they are refuled by allied which is mobil.100 octane $3.30 Never ever will I use BP on Drury/Bombay as the charge a futher 10c for being on the motorway system south. Labour cut the tax by 25% and fuel went up no win situation.Public transport is not an option for me.But the boy uses it daily in Tauranga, cbd to the mount $5 a week student rate and buses still empty.

Unfortunately no NPD north of the bridge. Need to do the figures to put a "44" on the trailer and drive to Welsford for a fill up, which is typically 15 cents cheaper than Warkworth. The BP on the northern motorway is likewise to be avoided cost wise. I see that Allied also supply my local Gull station, altho everyone (even the Stilh shop) says keep away from Gull's E10 95

speaking of motorways, here is the latest flyover of the Puhoi to Warkworth extension www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc1q4GgOlFI&t=328sthis is a couple of weeks ago. Last Sunday night we shifted traffic onto the first (Okahu) Viaduct north of the tunnel, entering/exiting the motorway on the new Puhoi ramp. Contest amongst motorists this week seems to have been to see how many cones you can knock over If you want to know more about the project read here, and sorry no comment on the opening date..... nx2group.com/
