It is times like these I'm very grateful to live in an island at the arse end or the pacific. Specific in the Southern Hemisphere, not the Northern, and with the ITCZ to protect us from atmospheric fallout.

Ukraine has a big advantage in artillery range and accuracy and are knocking hell out of Russians in what has evolved into a withering attritional campaign, with added long-range drone and missile sapping of Russian logistics. Russians have no ability to prosecute any successful offense – they are being beaten back slowly along most of front taking big loses. Even more-so when they might show small occasional short-lived gains for a few days or weeks in some spot via desperate meat-wave offensives. Clearest evidence is rate of Russian artillery fire that has plummeted in recent times as their guns have been taken out and ammo is in increasingly short supply, as is fuel as rear bases are targeted and their logistical capacity shrinks.
This is similar to last years Kherson campaign, where Russia held lines for months while being hammered until eventually they couldn’t sustain it any longer and collapsed back over the Dnipro.
However Ukraine is unable to make break-through advances due to high-density mine fields anti-tank weapons and Russian helicopters hanging back from the front lines to target any massed force. They combine to wreck any focused armoured assaults. Slower creeping attritional warfare is really Ukraines only option, they’ve taken back maybe 500km² through this summer offensive as Russia has lost 100k troops, thousands of artillery and armour units trying to defend.
