Nope. Our legal system doesn't work like that. So they are disgarding the treaty? No, they can't. Just like they can't disregard the principles that were defined in 1986. The government has the right to govern but the right to govern doesn't give them the power of Sovereignty.

I think we should listen to the experts. They always know what is best. That's why they're experts right?
I mean, how dare a national museum display the English version of the treaty!
A Māori legal expert is urging Te Papa to listen to protesters and remove its large display of the English version of the Treaty of Waitangi.
Twelve people were arrested on Monday after attacking the exhibition and using spray paint and an angle grinder to damage a wooden display panel.
The group, Te Waka Hourua says the English text wrongly states that Māori ceded sovereignty.

Don't really hear much about the Australian Aboriginals... Reality is no people that has been colonized has worked out. Every country is having its own set of problems... I was down the rabbit hole last night reading about the literally 100s of treaties in the USA between the native American's and the non-native...

And why did they do that? According to a few mates over there (one who you know Mr C) they reckon -
1 - The yes side sold it poorly, they just did a shit job.
2 - The No's said looked across the ditch to see how entrenching racism, using the real dictionary meaning, into every aspect of the society and how well that's working here.
Is it any wonder they look at us and thought 'Fuck that shit, Taikia Cehon* is absolutely correct, NZ is racist as fuck'.
* - Better known to many by his working name Taika Waititi
Again I'm left somewhat confused by your racist comment. As that word is now very much a contronym, are you meaning it in the old sense or the new sense? Old being racist as in if you are one you want your race to enjoy privileges all others don't or are you using the new sense in which it means you want all races to be treated as equals?

Bloody big word for a cow cocky. contronym /ˈkɒntrənɪm/ noun a word with two opposite meanings, e.g. sanction (which can mean both ‘a penalty for disobeying a law’ and ‘official permission or approval for an action’).

ACT's statement on some Island guy with his head in several got trough's resigning. PS anyone ever heard of the Te Whatu Ora Pacific Senate. Wonder what the Chair of that Senate got paid? On Tuesday, ACT's health and public service spokesperson Todd Stephenson said in a statement that while the party thanks Sir Collin for his service, public servants need to "get with the programme or get out". "ACT welcomes the resignation of any public officials who can't bring themselves to implement the programme outlined by the elected Government," he wrote. "If someone believes they can't do that because of their personal political beliefs - including the belief that some ethnic groups should be treated differently by the government simply because of their race - they should resign. "It's in no one's interest to have top public advisors glumly going through the motions in high-paid positions when potential champions for service delivery would jump at the chance to fill those roles." www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2023/12/act-welcomes-resignation-of-pasifika-health-expert-sir-collin-tukuitonga.html

You asked me what the referendum question was and why it shouldn't be asked? In what way do you envision a binding referendum, designed to enact an act of parliament, that would change the currently defined principles of the Treaty, as a genuine conversation? We've been having conversations about the meaning of treaty for the past 50 years. I don't expect them to stop anytime soon. We didn't need a referendum to reach the conclusion that abortion was OK. That conversation took 60 years - and it it was a shit load less complicated and charged than the treaty is. We didn't need a referendum to decide to decriminalise homosexuality. Another multi-decade conversation that was actually pretty darn straight forward compared to the treaty. And we sure as flying cat cows, don't need a referendum to continue to have conversations about the meaning of the treaty. Please, continue the conversation. I only asked what the question was you knew the referendum would say. You are the one arguing to keep our heads in the sand and ignoring it all.
A referendum is easy to do. Have you heard of things called elections? They are effectively referendums, we do them a lot and the majority want them to happen as it gives ALL people on the street a voice. As that didn't happen and a small group of hardly independent people have formed it all only one side has had a say, the majority have had no say what so ever.
Before you go all Willie Jackson claiming Maori will be fucked up by the majority, just consider the last set of local council elections and the just been Govt election. They proved Willie Jackson is struggling with reality due to his deeply ingrained selfish racism and love of the mighty buck.
Also go suss the photo of the muppets who trashed Te Papa yesterday.
Or we can continue heads in the sand pretending to talk for many more decades or until the blood in the streets gets too excessive.
Personally I'd prefer NZ to be one nation going hard out for the betterment of everyone, I'm sad you don't.

Agree, when the Aussie do racism they make Willie look like an absolute learner. I live in a racist as fuck country and cop abuse daily because of my race but when I'm unfortunate enough to have to cross the ditch I'm still constantly amazed at their racism and sexism. If I spoke to my Wa like many speak to theirs in Aussie she'd have taken me out decades ago.

Yep seen it. It's always sad when any group reaches the point of physical destruction to get there message across. Maori has been saying for the last 50yrs that they didn't cede Sovereignty. We have court cases agreeing such. We have tribunals agreeing such. We have scholars agreeing such. But we can't roll back the clock and we can't be two sovereign states living in the same country. What's the solution?
