Thats not what it says, read it again, and here: covid19.govt.nz/alert-levels-and-updates/covid-19-protection-framework/Alarmist misinformation springs to mind. I am sure the Government has been advised they no longer have a justifiable reason to suspend bill of rights provisions in NZ, they are just reintroducing them as slowly as they can get away with. An "abundance of caution" is quite different from "demonstrably justified"

Slight misunderstanding. No part of NZ will be going back into lockdown on the 17th of Jan. Unless something currently unforseen takes place of course. But right at the mo, the comment in the article is referring to the Xmas restrictions expire on the 17th. It may or maynot be continued after the 17th.

According to the testing station that is exactly what is going to happen 17th is back to strict border controls. As a weekly tester I said only a couple of weeks before I can stop this B/s. Thats when she about the 17th and you may to pay for testing as well.
Will have to wait and see but I dont trust them.
Remember what they said, all border staff vaxed, all ppe gear available. The lies got exposed and Bloomfield and Co back tracked real fast.

www.beehive.govt.nz/release/auckland-boundary-change-15-decemberTo minimise the risk of COVID-19 spreading from Auckland to other parts of the country travellers will have to be either fully vaccinated or have a negative test within 72 hours of departure. This requirement will be in place for the core summer period of December 15 2021 to January 17 2022. “On the northern boundary, and the gateway to Northland, Police will work with Iwi to ensure people can move, but also that the people of Northland have confidence in the checks that are in place. (Yep IWI will say piss off) We will be enabling inter-island ferries to require proof of vaccination or a negative pre-departure test in order to travel between Wellington and Picton (if they are not strike) Trust Comrade Ardern good luck to you. This Govt can do what like as there is no opposition party.2024 will handed to them at this rate.

was an awesome weekend. Got down the east side of Ponui about 7:30pm, anchored and did not move until Sunday evening. Water was warm, swam, paddle boarded, read books. Maybe drink some booze

They said they want to reestablish their border south of Opua down to the Russell Ferry, and Puketona in the north-east, effectively cutting visitors off from Opua, Paihia, Waitangi and Russell.
The move would come as a massive blow to the local economy.
Former New Zealand First MP Shane Jones, who lives in the Bay of Islands, says it’s a misguided publicity stunt.
“The economy must be supported and jobs safeguarded. Quite bizarre, given the scores of Ngāti Rairi households whose livelihood depends on tourism and hospitality.
“Maori are resilient and don’t need this fixation with lockdowns and trying to control local businesses,“ he said.www.1news.co.nz/2021/11/29/iwi-looking-to-block-holidaymakers-from-bay-of-islands/

Damn, Bay Week has been cancelled. The ferals won
It is with great sadness that we inform you know about the cancellation of CRC Bay of Islands Sailing Week 2022. We understand this will be a huge disappointment to many of you, and we apologise wholeheartedly for that.
Please know that the organising committee have not taken the decision lightly, and over the past few weeks have looked at several options to enable the event to happen in some shape or form. But in the end, the committee felt there was just too much stacked against the event this time around.
Covid is of course a major factor in this decision. The announcement of Northland’s ‘red’ traffic light status indicates that our region’s vaccination rates continue to be low. There is concern that running an event of this size would be irresponsible in light of the risk of transmission of the virus, and putting on a safe event is our primary concern. Unfortunately, we didn’t feel fully confident that this could be achieved in 2022.
On top of this, the regatta has suffered a reduction in funding this year, with valued sponsors and charitable funding organisations hit hard by recent lockdowns. There is understandable concern among some volunteers about being involved with a major event at this time. In addition, a possible shortage of marina berths due to the many covid-affected cruisers who have had to leave their boats here, have added up to a host of organisational issues this year.
You may have also heard about the marine mammal sanctuary which will soon come into force in the Bay of Islands. This adds further complexities to the organisation of this event, which we couldn’t be sure we’d be able to resolve in time.
While any one of these issues would have made this year’s planning a little more difficult, it is the compounding of a number of issues that have forced the cancellation of the regatta at this time.
Thank you to those of you who have already entered, along with those of you who were planning to support the event in its 20th year. We know this is a hard pill to swallow, and we appreciate your understanding.
Refunds will be issued by 17 December for those of you who have already paid entry fees. We look forward to welcoming you back to a bigger and better CRC Bay of Islands Sailing Week for our ‘belated’ 20th birthday celebrations in 2023.
Finally we’d like to mention our amazing sponsors who continue to support the regatta, and have been incredibly understanding in light of this decision. We hope to welcome back our headline sponsor CRC, as well as NZL Sailing Foundation, North Sails, Explore & Otehei Bay, Mount Gay Rum, Bay of Islands Marina, Gurit, Blufix Boatworks, Luxury Real Estate, Burnsco and New World, in 2023.
Best regards, Nina Kiff Chairperson, CRC Bay of Islands Sailing Week

I had a quiet w/e mostly at anchor in the Tiri and Whangaparaoa areas. With the warm & calm water I took the opportunity to give Fogg’s waterline a gentle scrub because man that white antifoul doesn’t half show the slightest growth. As I was cleaning it off I idly thought about the chances that I was breaking a new rule of some description and whether I might get a visit from the hull-scrubbing police… 😊
