Apparently we are formally allowed to overnight on our boat now? Any know any facts?
Note, I'm wanting to know what the rules say, this has zero influence on if I actually overnight...

Well under the new traffic light system (effective Friday) then accommodation is allowed at Red. Boating isn’t specifically mentioned in the list below but camping and DOC huts are OK so I take that as a yes for boats too. I imagine Coastguard will soon issue a statement saying they recommend boaties do not overnight on their boats. Which we’ll all ignore of course.

Have they talked about a water boarder between Auck & Northland? Not yet but there are a good handful up north who plan to waterboard any Aucklanders that turn up in their hood.

Last weekend we stopped at our local for a cooling beverage and a spot of lunch. We were sitting in the garden bar with my pint of cool Panhead plus some awesome fresh fish lightly pan fried with a few capers and parsley, and a table or 2 over we heard one of the local asking another couple "Where are you from?', they replied 'We came up from Auckland to see his sick mum'. The air cooled fast and evil eyes were being thrown. We were chatting to a couple of local bikers and one asked 'Where are you from?', I quickly replied 'Whangarei'.
I should have said Ararua just up the road as that's where our place actually is but the sudden turn in a few attitudes was fast and a little freaky so the first name north of the border that came out was Whangarei.
They are twitchy up there and I can understand why. We're popping up to the Bay to catch up with the in-laws so that could be interesting.
Another part of the angst and is very real, is the rural V city divide, it is large and growing fast. I can't see how that is going to end well. There is a genuine feeling all the decisions being made about their rural lives are only being made by city suburban dwellers who couldn't tell a sheep from a goat if their lives depended on it. As one straddling the divide and spend a lot of his younger years on deepest darkest Waikato dairy farms I am gobsmacked at how big the divide now is. It was nothing like this not that long ago.

A few pseudo-mandated vaccines ain’t gonna cure that malady.

I would make the most of the December - January cruising period, even though the weather outlook is not great (La Nina). With the announcement that the Waitangi day festivities have been cancelled I would not be at all surprised if the tooth fairy hits us with another lockdown mid-late January

I was chatting to a mate this evening who is Northland Maori. He's been in AKL until last weekend when he got a one off pass to go north to his house/land. Last week he was concerned at what he'd cop coming uo from AKl, even though 'his land' is part of a larger Iwi block. He said a few words were spoken but it was sort of OK until he went a little further north to an area that is very predominately Maori and is heartland of a Iwi that is headlines a lot lately. He said Hone et all have closed off the entire area, locked solid unless you do physically live there. I said "Do they have a large amount of older or unvaxxed?" He replied "Nope, it's harvest season". The assembled team collectively went 'Ya whot, surely not', he replied 'Yeap'
I do genuinely think he was serious.
