So it’s actually really happening… Māoris are now closing off whole parts of the country as inaccessible to ‘outsiders’ because they can. And because the Govt / Police have enabled & encouraged this.
WTF NZ??? 😳

Yeap it certainly appears so.
But they can't do it unless that pale skin women and her pale skin porky offsider allowed them too.

Have been out 4 times I think, all overnighters. No Police (I tend to go down by Ponui) heaps of boats out, no issues etc.
Boats seemt o be crossing the Firth. Had people anchored near us who were across for the weekend from Cromandel.

MPI Fisheries - Northland 2l2i0ma0ahi0fd · There are currently biosecurity rules in place making it illegal to fish from three harbours on Aotea Great Barrier Island. to prevent the spread of the invasive seaweed pest Caulerpa brachypus. The requirements are set out in a Controlled Area Notice (CAN). As well as banning the take of any marine life (fish, shellfish, seaweed, crays), if you anchor in these harbours, you’ll need a permit from Biosecurity New Zealand to move on. As partners in the response, Ngāti Rehua Ngāti Wai ki Aotea have placed a rāhui over the same areas. The legal controls are in place until Thursday, 30 June 2022. What are the chances they ban anchoring at Fitzroy? I'm sure the local Iwi will be working on it to keep the dirty private boat owners away over Christmas... The chances of this weed being in all of those bays and not in Fitzroy? Tidal currents, ocean currents. Maybe Fitzroy is too deep for it? How would that go down? banning anchoring in Fitzroy just in time for the Christmas cruise? mwahahaa, I think it may get ignored for a wee while.

I came up to Fogg to do similar - actually to try filling my reserve diesel tank and see if the cross-feed system works. Went to start engine and it cranked then whole ignition panel died (one of those annoying keyless electronic panels). Turned on shore power to boost start battery back up and hey presto! engine starts ok. Conclusion - start battery probably dead (age unknown). So spent the next 2 hrs replacing that. All working ok again now. Try again with my refuel tomorrow.

I reckon you will be welcome, there will be a small but vocal opposition, ignore it. Pahia is a ghost town, business and people are hurting. Weekend visits from Auckland were a lifeline for some, then that broke.

I wonder how welcome boaties will be in places like BOI? Even going ashore for groceries in Russell or Opua or Paihia do you think it will be warm / neutral / cold welcome? I have been told the Iwi/s are shutting down launching facilities around Northland in preparation. No idea if they are or not but it fits that they sure could be.
Lately when we are north we are Northlanders. There is some strong ill feelings about Aucklanders up there, by some but not all. The problem is bar Hone and his human road cone resembling heros it's hard to tell which is which.
I'd suggest if anyone asks you say you sailed up from Tauranga, Gissy or anywhere bar Auckland.

A weekend of two halves. Sunny & breezy yesterday but overcast and light today. But both days v warm air & sea temp - it’s hanging around 21C which is great for my morning swim 😊
