Just got back, Went to Waiheke friday night, picked up some pizzas. Sat morning wandered past the Ostend market, then back on the boat to our favorite bay on Ponui. Nice and sunny, a few swims. Came back early to do some maintenance/cleaning etc.
Just to add some fun to berthing the bow thruster jammed in one direction. I now need to work out where the circuit breaker is as nothing seemed to turn it off!

Bloody hell that would have been good spectator sport! Did you just go round in circles until the battery died and then berthed as usual? 😊

fortunately I managed to stop it in the end. We were in the berth and I was just in the process of pushing the bow across for the co-captain who wondered what in earth I was up to!

A weekend of two halves. Sunny & breezy yesterday but overcast and light today. But both days v warm air & sea temp - it’s hanging around 21C which is great for my morning swim 😊 <button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> <button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> Two happy smiley faces there. We have just installed a new sonar / sounder that includes sea temp. (the last one was 20 years old and finally shat itself). Went out for a little cruise to Arkles on Friday, marvelling at all the colours and useless info on my new sonar. Temp was between 21 & 22, I was bemused and thought it must be air temp, like we hadn't installed or wired something in correctly. Turns out it is the water temp. My boy (6) swam around the boat for the first time ever. Complete change in confidence. Got my girl (8) a new snorkel set with a good mask, she saw fish on her very first snorkel with it - in Arkles, I was most surprised, expecting to need to go out to tiri for good fish life.

Yes the water was looking really nice and clear everywhere last weekend - even in Bon Accord. I imagine the warmer temps will accelerate algae growth though leading to murkiness again?

Yeah it’s that time of year for finding soft-spots in your batts. Last year it my house & bowthruster. This year engine start. Hoping that’s me for another 4-5yrs then I’ll consider lithium for next time.

So what's the go with Great Barrier, anyone been over yet? Are the locals friendly still? No local border patrol?

As at today my spies over there tell me all going well - locals they’ve seen have been friendly & welcoming as usual.

Who’s out (lucky buggers)?!
Fogg is ‘all dressed up with nowhere to go’ whilst onshore family commitments cast a shadow over Christmas proceedings. ☹️

Boat partners have sailed our keel yacht up to Opua this week, she is happily on mooring at Tapu Point. Will spend a week on board around Bay of Islands in early Jan, then aiming to take GBE up to our bach for last two weeks in Jan. But first.....bloody Christmas to get past !!

Happily anchored in Smokehouse Bay with 15 other boats, mainly yachts and no Rivitimos! Happy sounds of kids splashing around having a good time. Brilliant sail from Sandspit, 15-20kts SSW which gave a better angle than the usual SW, past Little Barrier picked up to a steady 20kts with a few gusts to 25, CZ happily cruising in the 8's, bursts to 9's. Now for some serious relaxation. Don't hang around getting out here.....
