OUCH is an understatement. I tend to not give a ... about filling up but on Wednesday after the pre-authorised $150 ran out before the tank was full I started too.
Word from people who should know is fuel costs are going to rocket up from this evening. Not sure why when the price of crude dropped yesterday and again today but that's life in paradise...as well as NZ by the looks.
I had the same feeling Olive has

I look forward to smaller wakes as higher prices affect even the Riv brigade.

The last tank on my 1200cc hybride cost 20cents/ km. When I bought it, it was 7cents / km. That was with petrol at $3.13 in Wairau Rd. Around Whangaparaoa it is $3.33 or $33.27 (on Wednesday). Points to note are that the roofrack (for my windsurfer and SUP's) costs 10% fuel efficiency. And now I'm working from home so I'm not getting those steady, efficient long motorway trips. All short stop start local driving.
The PHEV Outlander is getting somewhere around 3-5cents / km on the EV part though. And that is making up 90% of our trips now (30km range).
Yesterday Robinson said he doens't expect petrol to top $4/l - so that rings alarm bells. I don't trust that beady eyed fat fucker, so based on that statement, I would expect petrol to hit $3.95 / l (Meaning Robinson was technically right, but still misses the point).
Petrol is $0.70 excise, $0.10 Auckland tax, and GST on top of everything. Does anyone know how much the emissions trading scheme is on petrol? I've seen references but no numbers...

2.4kg of Co2 per litre, so with NZ ETS at about NZD$72/ton. So about 17c/l if I did it right

None of this should be a surprise. I ( and others )forecast all of this and more on that other site.Subsequently they conveniently wiped the forum in its entirety. And it's not really Covid,Ukraine fuel et al. It's the way they managed (controlled) what happened. But the bimbo PM tells NZ there is no crisis and then later on tells NZ it is a one in one hundred year crisis. On a $500000 p.a. salary I suppose you would have a confused view of what constitutes a crisis. But 2/3rds NZ know it.Its here and its real. Not like Ukraine but financially. Govt.should limit their tax take on fuel right now. Say on the first $2 per litre attracting fees levys, charges and GST so not plundering the crisis. Yeah right. Fact is NZ is financially stuffed ,Government is now proved to be incompetent numpties like kids haven been given the cookie jar and now finding it empty dont know how that happened nor what to do about it

they jacked the local fuel prices as soon as the oil price started rising, so with oil price falling why the continuing climb? Yeah, I know dumb question
